Lannon has evolved from a quarry town to a growing exurb
The village of Lannon has been hit by a new wave of homebuilding on the outer edge of Menomonee Falls. The Milwaukee exurb, about 35 minutes from the city, long relied on its limestone quarries and industrial parks for local jobs. “Lannon stone comes from there. There’s a big quarry in town, and that’s why the stone is called that,” says Jeremy Rynders, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who has sold several homes in the area. “We use that stone for building a lot of houses in this area. A lot of people also use big pieces of limestone for landscaping and building benches.” Today, new construction and quick access to Interstate 41 are transforming Lannon into one of Milwaukee’s newest bedroom communities.
Newer builds meet with vintage properties along Lannon's streets
About 1,400 people live in Lannon. Though small in size, the community features a variety of housing options. Tree-lined streets in southeastern Lannon tend to be densely shaded. Homes here are mostly older, single-family residences built from the 1870s to the 2000s with prices ranging from $250,000 and $430,000. The southwestern corner of Lannon has mostly new construction in subdivisions offering larger lot sizes. Single-family homes and stand-alone condos built since 2015 have sold for $470,000 to $720,000; many were built as recently as 2024. “A new wave of homebuilding in neighboring communities has carried into Lannon, but there’s not as much as in Menomonee Falls or the medium-sized Sussex,” Rynders says. Lannon has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
