Las Lomas
Mostly renters call this Laredo neighborhood home
Along grid-patterned streets that alternate between flat and hilly are cramped lots accented by large oaks, towering palm trees and weeping willows. Sidewalks are inconsistent and as narrow as Las Lomas' roads. There is street parking, although most properties have driveways and carports. Homes were primarily built between 1955 and 1995. They vary from one-story, three-to-four-bedroom residences to multifamily apartment buildings or several units packed on one lot. According to Ana Reyna Arzate, Marketing Coordinator for the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau and 20-year resident of Laredo, Las Lomas is one of the oldest parts of the whole city. Most residents living in these established homes are renters. Las Lomas mainly consists of rental properties as the rental investment business becomes more mainstream. Porches, patios and cabanas are common, along with wrought-iron security bars and front lawns framed by chain-link or iron fences. Some have been recently renovated, while others may need repairs and upgrades. Some properties are under 1,000 or over 4,500 square feet, but most are between 1,300 and 2,500. Interested homebuyers can expect prices to range from $180,000 to $250,000.Small mom-and-pops include Mex-Mart
On East Saunders Street, local and chain restaurants, including Taco Palenque, are located near the hospital and airport. "Mex-Mart is also on Saunders," Arzate says. "It's a good spot for coffee and tacos, if that's your thing." Mex-Mart provides meat, snacks, other pantry items and a self-serve salsa bar. An H-E-B is also right on Saunders. Downtown Loredo is 2 miles south and has an assortment of big-box retailers and boutiques at the Laredo Urban Mall. More local eats can be found up and down San Bernardo Avenue, just 1 mile away. Additional options for upscale restaurants and entertainment are located 4 miles north at Plaza De Laredo. The shopping mall also has plenty of department stores and large grocery chains.Laredo ISD students can attend VMT School of Communications and Fine Art

However, several recreation options are within a short walk, metro ride or drive. The 10-mile-long Zacate Creek stretches to the Rio Grande and connects residents to several other parks and trails. In April of 2024, the City of Laredo, along with the Outdoor Recreation Partnership Program, was granted over $7 million to cover the creation of a visitor center, new trails and gardens. Residents can also reach Lake Casa Blanca State International State Park within 4 miles. The park offers several playgrounds and various sports fields and courts. The city organizes a variety of free annual events, such as the Laredo International Sister Cities Festival, which takes over the Sames Auto Arena every July. The mercado hosts artisans from all over Mexico who specialize in hand-made jewelry, clothing, and other goods. Arzate says the festival has been celebrated for 20 years, and during those three days, the city sees about 20,000 attendees. The Laredo Birding Festival is a yearly tradition held every February. Then there's the George Washington Birthday Celebration is unique to Laredo tradition. "We are a part of the United States, and we are proud of it," Arzate says. "We want to have a way to celebrate that in Laredo."
