Life near the waterfront in Largo Meadows Park
An appealing residential neighborhood, Largo Meadows Park offers a unique setting near the city’s waterfront. Attractive midcentury homes stand out among an eclectic mix of housing options, and homeowners enjoy a quiet residential environment bordered by a pair of nature parks along the Intracoastal Waterway. In addition, the attractions of the Gulf Coast are close by. “That’s an area where you have such great proximity to the beach,” says Barbara Brockwell, who has been in the mortgage and real estate business for nearly two decades and recently sold a home in the neighborhood. “You’re literally 2 minutes away over the causeway bridge.”

A variety of home styles along walkable streets
A collection of midcentury-modern and traditional ranch-style designs highlights the neighborhood’s varied housing options, which also include contemporary homes built in recent years. Houses line walkable, tree-lined streets, and custom landscaping adds curb appeal to the spacious lots. Backyards are large enough for pools. Most homes are one-story, but multilevel options also can be found. Prices typically range from the low $400,000s to the high $800,000s. More affordable options include condos at Lakeview of Largo, a 55-plus community with resort-style amenities and waterfront views, and manufactured homes. Prices range from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$200,000s. Aside from the condos, the neighborhood is HOA-free. However, homeowners should be aware that flooding and wind damage are significant risks during hurricane season, and insurance rates are likely to reflect that.

Enjoying the outdoors at local nature parks and on the water
Residents can find recreation and relaxation at not one but two neighborhood attractions. George C. McGough Nature Park, better known as “Turtle Park,” offers a glimpse into the natural habitats of oak hammocks and mangroves along the Intracoastal Waterway. It offers educational programs and features live animal exhibits at its nature center. John R. Bonner Nature Park is a stop on the Great Florida Birding Trail. Its woodland trails are a popular spot to experience the sights and sounds of migrating songbirds in the spring and fall, and a boardwalk that leads to the Intracoastal Waterway highlights the serene setting. The IC, as it is known to locals, and the nearby open waters of the Gulf provide nautical adventures for boaters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Indian Rocks Beach, a barrier island just across the causeway bridge, is home to white-sand beaches and Splash Harbour Water Park. “It’s more family friendly. It’s always been that way,” says Timothy O’Neil of Plumlee Gulf Beach Realty, who has nearly 20 years of experience in the local market. “It’s not as commercial. It’s a laid-back family atmosphere.” However, for those who’d like to experience the buzzier destinations of Clearwater Beach and other points north, there’s transportation for that. “They have what’s called the Jolly Trolley that goes all the way to Tarpon Springs,” O’Neil says. Largo Golf Course’s public, par-62 executive layout is less than 2 miles away.

Restaurants are just as conveniently concentrated along Indian Rocks Road and Walsingham Road, which form the neighborhood’s eastern and southern edges. Popular destinations include Greek Village Café, Mike’s Pizza and Pub and Barks and Brews, which has a play area for dogs and features live music and trivia. Indian Rocks Beach is home to a variety of restaurants, including The Original Crabby Bill’s. A Target about 4 miles away is the closest big-box retailer.
