Home to the Newport subdivision and a neighborhood elementary school
Newport is a desirable Largo community with a local elementary school in Pinellas County. Businesses line busy roadways to the east and north of the neighborhood, and at the center of the area is the Newport subdivision. These residences cost more, comparatively, than ones in nearby neighborhoods like Village Green. "Residential lots tend to be a little bit bigger than other communities," says Roberta "Bobbie" Kaplan, a Realtor with Sun Sand & Sea Homes Realty. "It's very close to Tampa for quick commutes, it's close to shopping." The neighborhood also includes apartment complexes and manufactured-home communities.
Newport has subdivisions with homes that are carefully planned and nicely maintained.
Niche gives Frontier Elementary School in Clearwater a B rating.

Many homes without an HOA in Pinellas County
Sidewalks and houses with attached garages populate the residential streets in the Newport subdivision. The area contains ranch-style and bi-level homes, some made with concrete blocks and others with brick exteriors. "You are going to get larger homes than other communities," says Kumari Fulbright, an experienced Tampa-area broker with Coastal Properties Group International. "They may be a little more expensive, but it's still a bargain for Pinellas County in many ways." Move-in ready houses sell for between $350,000 and $550,000. Fulbright says many single-family developments in the area such as the Newport subdivision do not have homeowners associations, which means residents can make exterior home changes or rent their properties without HOA oversight. Woodside Village offers villa-style condos to the west, with units that can range in price from $110,000 to $250,000. The eastern side of the community features manufactured homes in the retirement-friendly developments La Plaza Mobile Home Park and Blue Horizon Mobile Home Park; recently, these homes were listed for between $40,000 and $75,000.
Bi-level homes are among the less common ones in most of Largo, but the Newport neighborhood has many.
Traditional ranches with a garage are one of the options in the Newport neighborhood.

A history of hurricanes in Largo
The region has a risk of hurricanes and tropical storms, which may cause subsequent flooding, but, Kaplan says, "It's not in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area, which is great." This means that flood insurance is not required.
Many students can walk to Frontier Elementary
Pinellas County Schools serves Newport students. Frontier Elementary offers STEM, writing, drama and flag-football clubs. The school sits inside Newport and has a B-minus rating from Niche. Students can also attend Morgan Fitzgerald Middle and Pinellas Park High; both have B ratings. The high school provides a JROTC program and a criminal justice academy. Families may apply to out-of-zone schools on the district's website.

Pinellas Park High School serves students from ninth through twelfth grade.

Commuting on U.S. 19 and I-275
"The neighborhood is at a major intersection of East Bay Drive and U.S. Highway 19," Kaplan says. "U.S. 19 is four to six lanes that go from South Pinellas County to Pasco." The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority operates several bus stops along the two roads. Commuters can reach Interstate 275 in about 9 miles by connecting to Gandy Boulevard from the Highway. Locals can make it to Clearwater's downtown in 7 miles and downtown Tampa in 20 miles.

Enjoying the outdoors from Northeast Park to Indian Rocks Beach
Northeast Park & Paw Place has a basketball court, a playground and a street hockey rink. Its on-site dog park includes a water feature and a short trail through a wooded area. About 3 miles west is Largo Central Park Nature Preserve, home to marsh rabbits, turtles, alligators and several species of waterbirds. Visitors launch canoes and kayaks in the preserve to paddle a waterway that ends at Park Boulevard. About 9 miles away is the Florida Gulf Coast, where Indian Rocks Beach has several public access points near the shore. Locals sometimes spot dolphins and manatees in the water.
The Paw Place is part of Newport's Northeast Park where retired professional actors can climb on the tables without being scolded.

Just across East Bay Drive from Newport, the Tri-City Plaza shopping center includes Publix, Petco, Dollar Tree and LA Fitness. A Walmart Supercenter can also be found near the intersection of Highway 19 and East Bay Drive. The dining scene leans toward national chains, but there are also local restaurants like neighborhood coffee shop Addicted to the Bean, which serves sandwiches and pastries. To the west, East Bay Plaza contains Sushi Spot/Hibachi, a Harbor Freight tool store and another Publix.

GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
