Small, close-knit Santa Rosa community rebuilding itself

“People who live in Larkfield-Wikiup think of it as their own little city,” says Sullivan Group Realtor and local resident of 12 years Julie Sullivan. “They’re just really proud of it. They’ll support their small businesses and greet each other at the market.” Adjacent to multiple parks and local shopping areas, this small, self-contained neighborhood is steadily restoring itself after the devastating Tubbs wildfire destroyed nearly 700 homes, many in the Larkfield Estates area. Now, new single-family houses sit on once barren quarter-acre lots, and community members themselves have formed groups to continue the rebuilding process of their little city.

Larkfield-Wikiup was mostly destroyed in 2017, and is now a dense suburban development.

Two-story New Traditional style homes from the late 80s average around $850,000, while ones from the 2010s average around $835,000. Ball games and open grassy space at Maddux Ranch Park

The 11-acre Maddux Ranch Regional Park features two playgrounds with swings along with several tennis courts and ball fields where Mark West Little League practices. Visitors can park in asphalt lots right next to the fields and stroll along the paved greenspace paths or relax in the shade under tall white oak trees. The park is also home to Larkfield Community Garden and Learning Center that aims to educate about regenerative farming. Residents can hike the dirt-packed Big Leaf and Canyon trails at the massive 850-acre Shiloh Ranch Regional Park located in the Mayacamas Mountains; many of the trails are former ranch roads, making their width perfect for horseback riding through live oak trees.

Shopping at longstanding Molsberry Market

Molsberry Market is a favorite local place for grocery shopping, according to Sullivan. The 60-year-old family establishment sells meat and produce from nearby Foster Farms along with a killer wine selection from several wineries nearby. After stopping in for groceries, locals can sip on lattes at Blue Beagle or check out the beloved Homerun Pizza for knuckle balls—pizza dough stuffed with mozzarella cheese and bacon. Mi Ranchito is a half-mile drive down the road and serves savory mole burritos with rice and beans on the side. Handmade jewelry created by local artists and vintage home décor are available at Treasure House Consignment located about 5 miles from the neighborhood, and retail chains like JCPenney and Nordstrom can be found in Coddington Mall.

Lighter traffic and convenience to US-101

Sullivan says the neighborhood is somewhat walkable, but most people drive to get around. “On the north end where we are at, we don’t see as much traffic as opposed to the central part of the county,” she says. Downtown Santa Rosa is about a 7-mile drive south via US-101, and for a day trip to cooler climates, Shell Beach in Bodega Bay is 30 miles west. Sonoma County Airport and Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital are conveniently within 3 miles of the community.

Fresh veggies at Santa Rosa Farmers Market

Locals love flocking to The Santa Rosa Farmers Market every month for Senior Bounty Bucks Day where people aged 60+ can use coupons at fruit and vegetable vendor tents. During the holidays, young carolers from Santa Rosa Cub Scout troop perform hymns while visitors shop for holiday crafts at vendor booths. Within 3 miles of the neighborhood, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts hosts hundreds of educational and entertainment events, including celebrity comedy shows, cultural dance performances, and even group medium readings.
