Creekside neighborhood offers waterfront living and a small-town feel
The Creekside neighborhood is located between the wide Corte Madera Creek and Larkspur's historic downtown. The mild climate brings people out year-round for water recreation, hiking and sports activities, as well as downtown diversions. “When I moved here, I thought of downtown like the one in 'Back to the Future' with Michael J. Fox,” says Patti Cohn, a Realtor with Compass who lives in Larkspur and has been a top producer for decades. “It’s just such a sweet town, and it’s kind of a dream to have a small town close to a world-class city. It checks all the boxes. Some of the neighborhood's homes are on the water and those are very desirable, and with us having the best inland coastal weather, this really is the California dream.”
The Creekside neighborhood is surrounded with opportunity including Corte Madera Creek, Greenbrae shopping, downtown Larkspur and trails up Mount Tamalpais.

Community green space and small boats dotting Corte Madera Creek
The Corte Madera Creek is filled with Chinook salmon and protected steelhead trout, and it's popular for kayaking, fishing and rowing. “You see Marin Rowing Company boats out there,” says Cohn. “It’s delightful to see them and hear them go by.” A finger of the creek extends into the middle of the neighborhood, giving most Creekside residents water access. Other recreational areas in the neighborhood include the large Piper Park, which has soccer, tennis and volleyball facilities, plus a dog park. Mt. Tam Racquet Club is located within the neighborhood. Greenway trails provide paved pathways for hiking, dog walking and biking. Just across the creek in Greenbrae, Hal Brown Park is a 27-acre expanse with trails along the creek and views of Mount Tam. The park also has a playground, a labyrinth and a community amphitheater.

Waterfront homes and entry-level condos at Larkspur Isle
Single-family homes range from about $1 million to $3 million. Older cottages, some built as far back as the 1920s, line the creek and are on the lower end of the price range. Many have docks and are elevated on stilts to manage the tidal levels of the water. Newer 1990s contemporary homes are not directly on the water but are larger, with over 2,000 square feet of living space and front-facing two-car garages. Most of these homes are in cul-de-sacs, and the yards are well-tended. These homes are more expensive. The Larkspur Isle condos were built in 1973, and prices range from $400,000 to $650,000. One-bedroom condos are on the lower end of the range, while the most expensive have two bedrooms, vaulted ceilings and water views. “This condo complex is another thing that drives people here,” says Cohn. “You can get a two-bedroom for $650,000, and that for Marin County is entry-level. There are no rental restrictions right now, so you can rent them, but some people are using them as second homes.”

Historic downtown Larkspur headlines shopping and dining options
While there are no restaurants or shops in Creekside itself, Larkspur's historic downtown commercial district starts a block down Magnolia Avenue. The Art Deco-style Lark Theater presents movies, operas and unique events like spoken word performances. From there, Victorian buildings line both sides of the street. Sidewalks are wide enough for strolling along coffee shops, art galleries, boutiques and burger joints. Favorite spots include Left Bank Brasserie, a French restaurant with a huge stone fireplace and sidewalk seating, and Restaurant Picco, which serves Italian dishes with California ingredients. There are also shopping plazas two miles away in Corte Madera. A Safeway grocery store is located there, along with brand-name boutiques, department stores like Nordstrom and Macy’s and a range of casual and fine dining restaurants.
