Southwestern suburb with comparatively affordable homes
Branching off Roadrunner Parkway, winding residential streets are lined with three-to-four-bedroom Mediterranean- and Pueblo Revival-style homes built between the 1980s and 2000s; attached garages are standard, stucco exteriors are painted shades of beige, orange and light brown to blend with the desert landscape, and low-water landscaping includes succulents and gravel. “It’s a great place for first-time homebuyers. The cost of living is low and so is the price per square-foot compared to most cities," says Jamie Edwards, Associate Broker and Realtor with EXIT Realty Horizons in Las Cruces. The neighborhood's two-to-four-bedroom homes range from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet, and prices range from $350,000 to $750,000. "While a lot of the homes here are large, though, folks should make sure to get a thorough home inspection before buying out here. Make sure no corners were cut in order to make the homes more affordable.”

The public,18-hole Sonoma Ranch Golf Course sits at High Range's southeast corner, its entrance marked by the Sonoma Ranch Club House building; the course hosts tournaments year-round. The 34-acre Desert Trails Community Park runs along the neighborhood's eastern border, with paved, multi-use trails that offer views of Las Cruces from open vistas. Nearby, Veteran’s Memorial Park offers an almost 3-mile trail studded with monuments to soldiers who fought in World War II and the China Burma India War.

Local kids can start school at Desert Hills Elementary, then advance to Camino Real Middle School; each earns an A-minus from Niche. Roadrunner parkway leads to nearby cities
North Roadrunner Parkway connects High Range with the rest of Las Cruces. It merges with Interstate 10, leading west to El Paso, Texas in about 45 miles. The Mesilla Valley Intermodal Transit Terminal is half a mile south of the neighborhood, and RoadRUNNER Transit has 8 bus routes throughout the city. The closest shopping and dining options can be found less than a mile south, at the intersection of Roadrunner Parkway and East Lohman Drive. The Mesilla Valley Mall is about 3 miles from High Range, with 85 stores that include The Children's Place and Ulta Beauty, as well as local restaurants like Sansei Japanese Cuisine.Downtown Las Cruces offers specialty locally owned shops like Thrifty Flower Gal thrift shop and boho outfitter The Little Shop on Main. For nightlife, the historic Rio Grande Theater features local and travelling performers.

Arid weather means dust ordinances in place
Las Cruces' dry desert climate and the city's proximity to the Rio Grande and surrounding desert landscapes contribute to the presence of dust in the environment. The City of Las Cruces has put ordinances in place in attempt to control dust measures, such as requiring construction sites to implement dust-reducing practices and enforcing fines for excessive dust emissions.
