A centrally located golf course community
While Sonoma Ranch is known primarily as a golf course community, its custom homes and central location make it popular with both families and retirees. “It's built around the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course, which is spread throughout the neighborhood, so most homes have views of the course and the mountains,” says Peggy Stevenson, a Realtor and associate broker with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Steinborn and Associates who’s sold in the area for 11 years. Residents here also enjoy being close to parks and other amenities. “It's not downtown, but it's in the middle of everything,” says Manny Patino, a Realtor with Patino Real Estate who’s sold homes in Las Cruces for 12 years. “You’re close to the highways, shopping and restaurants.” Nearby houses of worship include Sonoma Springs Covenant Church and Temple Beth-El, and Downtown Las Cruces is 6 miles away.

Southwestern-style custom homes with golf course views
Custom Southwestern-style homes sit among the golf course’s fairways, and most residents can see the course from their back patios. A walk down the neighborhood’s sidewalks reveals xeriscaped front yards and common design elements like clay-tiled roofs and earth-toned stucco exteriors. “A lot of the homes were built in the early 2000s, so they have a lot of high-quality finishes,” Patino says. “You’re going to see vigas, tongue-and-groove ceilings and beautiful stacked stone fireplaces.” Homes here typically have three bedrooms and range from 1,600 to 3,200 square feet; prices range from $335,000 and $679,000, depending on size. Homeowners association fees are just over $100 a year and cover sidewalk and road maintenance.
The Boulders at Sonoma Ranch and the Boulders on the Green are both 55-plus gated communities in the neighborhood’s east. The Southwestern-style homes here look similar to those around the golf course, and with two or three bedrooms, range from 1,800 to 2,200 square feet; prices range from $397,000 to $445,000, depending on size. Monthly HOA fees cost between $145 and $170 and cover shared amenities that include a pool and clubhouse.
A gated community in the south has low-rise condos that range from one bedroom in 500 square feet to three bedrooms in 1,500 square feet; prices range from $115,000 to $230,000, depending on size. Monthly HOA fees cost between $108 and $231, covering maintenance for the building, pool and gym.

Play 18 holes at the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course
The public, 18-hole Sonoma Ranch Golf Course sits in the neighborhood’s center, with a driving range, a pro shop and a PGA professional who teaches clinics and private lessons. When residents aren’t walking the fairways, they can often be found walking along the neighborhood’s sidewalks. “It’s very friendly,” Stevenson says, “with a lot of dog walkers and people out walking every morning and greeting each other.” The 34-acre Desert Trails Community Park in the west is another popular place to walk; it has a nearly 3-mile paved path through a desert landscape with views of the city. The 2-acre Sagecrest Park and 3-acre Sam Graft Park are both just outside of the neighborhood and have playgrounds and greenspace for kids to burn off some energy.
