About 33 miles northeast of Dallas is the growing city of Lavon, a small community of about 7,000 drawn to the area for lower-priced homes and easy access to lakes Lavon and Ray Hubbard. "It's a nice, quiet community, and it's affordable compared to the bigger areas like Plano," says Trang Dang-Le, CEO of ERA Power. The 21,000-acre Lake Lavon was completed in 1953 and is popular for boating, swimming and fishing. A plethora of parks, campgrounds and marinas around the lake add to its appeal.
"People here commute to Plano, Richardson, Frisco and Dallas for work," Dang-Le says. Lavon's largest private employer is the Cohn-Gregory Company, which produces hardware and hand tools. The Community Independent School District is the largest public employer, serving Lavon, Nevada, Josephine, and Copeville.
