Traditional homes, suburban feel and convenient location
Located minutes from both Harrisburg and Hershey, Lawnton offers a convenient corner of south-central Pennsylvania. A sizable portion of mid to late-20th-century residences make up this peaceful, primarily tree-shaded residential area in the northeast corner of the Interstate 83 and Route 322 intersection. “Lawnton is a suburb with mostly post-war boom homes,” says local Realtor Jon Judson. “It has a blend of business and residential areas.” Local businesses are clustered along Derry Street, a primary commercial thoroughfare lined by low-slung offices and shopping centers that parallel a busy railroad corridor and a highway that leads to the world-famous town of Hershey.

Residents have easy access to a variety of shopping and dining options for everything from the essentials to home goods and more. The various big box stores, fast-food franchises and national retailers, including Walmart and Target, are dispersed in the shopping centers along Route 322 and the Capital Beltway corridor. For more than a century, fruit trees and vegetables have been farmed in Strites Orchard, which is located south of the highway. During the 1950s, the family decided to expand and opened a market that is now a well-liked local institution. They provide bread, fresh vegetables, and a variety of other foods. Visitors may also pay to harvest their own sunflowers, apples, grapes, and pumpkins at the location.
