Laymantown offers mountainside living
Laymantown is a residential community situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains with quick access to Roanoke. It’s part of Botetourt County, which was established in 1770 and had a county line that originally extended all the way to the Mississippi River. Farming dominates local industry, though Laymantown’s mountainside location mostly leaves room only for homes. Locals have access to shopping and dining just to the south, and the nearby highway takes commuters directly into Roanoke.
Late-1900s homes starting in the $200,000s
Colonial and ranch-style homes were built primarily between 1970 and 2000. Houses are scattered along winding roads that weave through the area’s forests, but there are also properties with clear, open lots. Homes feature driveways for vehicle parking, and larger properties come with attached or detached garages. Houses typically sell for $200,000 to $500,000.
Highly rated public schools
Students may start at Colonial Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche, before going to Read Mountain Middle, which also gets an A-minus. Lord Botetourt High receives a B-plus and offers career and technical education programs.
Commuting via Route 460
Commuters can take U.S. Route 460 just 10 miles south to get to Roanoke. Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is located 11 miles away. The closest airport, Roanoke-Blacksburg, is 12 miles away.
Nearby sports facilities and hiking trails
In the center of Laymantown, Rainbow Forest Lake is a local swimming spot with a sliver of sandy coast. Across Route 460, Blue Ridge Park offers sports facilities for baseball, basketball and tennis, as well as a playground and a picnic pavilion. The Blue Hills Golf Club is 7 miles away with a public, 18-hole course. Botetourt County also has four trail systems with a combined 7.5-miles of hiking paths.
Food Lion, more shops just down the road
Food Lion is just outside the area along Route 460. China House is a popular, locally owned eatery in the same shopping center. Residents can also drive another 3 miles south on 460 for Walmart, Kroger and fast-food chains.
