Jardin del Rey dishes out Mexican food, and all three restaurants sit within the neighborhood on 183. Just north, in downtown Leander, a selection of restaurants sits close to where 183 intersects with Hero Way, including Matinee! Coffee + Concessions, Indian food at Desi Hangout and baked goods at Casa Costa Bake Shop. Those looking for a beer can go to 5th Element Brewing on the east side of 183.Nearby local shops add a unique air to the retail sector in Leander Heights. “There are a lot of vibrant and diverse businesses,” Sutherland says. “There are a ton of boutiques, such as Urban Gypsy, Turquoise Peacock Boutique, Moon Beach Crystals and Gifts and Circle B Nurseries, which are all businesses curated around different types of hobbies.” Just across Hero Way, grocery shoppers can visit an H-E-B Plus!, which is less than 2 miles north of Leander Heights. Heading down to Austin on Route 183

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport sits less than 40 miles in the same direction.Cooling off in the summer at splash pads and Lake Travis
Locals have to head outside of Leander Heights for places to get outdoors. “It’s near Sandy Creek Park and other parks at Lake Travis, so there are a ton of outdoor things to do,” Sutherland says of the neighborhood. “It’s very close to Crystal Falls Golf Club, which is one of the premier golf courses in the northern suburbs. The Quarry Splash Pad is one of the top things to take kids to.” The splash pad is at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, less than 10 miles southeast, and is an expansive area to cool off during its seasonal May-through-September opening. Sandy Creek Park is popular for swimming, fishing and walking trails on the shores of Lake Travis, about 13 miles southwest. Downtown Leander also plays host to annual events centered around the community. On Brushy Street, just north of Leander Heights, the Old Town Street Festival takes place each June, and festivities include a 5K race, food, live music and local vendors. Each December, a Christmas-themed edition of the festival also spotlights local vendors. The Old Town Christmas Festival includes the Rudolph Run 5K, a parade and opportunities for families to meet Santa. The Annual Bluegrass & Folk Festival has endured for 20 years and features local food and concerts over the course of a Friday and Saturday night in October.
