A historic community with a rural feel
Established in 1803, Leavittsburg is a deep-rooted residential community in Trumbull County, bounded by the Mahoning River on three sides. The development of a late 19th-century Leavittsburg railroad station contributed to the growth of Northeastern Ohio and connected locals with big metropolitan areas like Pittsburgh and Cleveland. The train station is no longer active, and the community's population has gradually decreased. Nowadays, Leavittsburg is home to a small population of just over 1,400 residents. "Leavittsburg offers more of a rural feel with a country-like setting," says Realtor Dominic Mararri of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. Mararri grew up in a nearby Ohio town but attributes his success to Warren and its community. He has sold homes since 2015 and serves as a Public Relations Director for Warren Family Mission, a local family resource center. "And it's only 10 to 15 minutes from the heart of Warren. You get an affordable country lifestyle within the city limits."
Established homes from the 1920s
Housing values are often below $100,000 and rarely exceed the $150,000 mark. "This area is one of the best-kept secrets when it comes to getting more for your money," Mararri says. "You can get plenty of square footage for a lower price point." Houses commonly afford at least three bedrooms, 1,000 square feet and a half-acre of land. Build dates stretch across the 20th century, dating back to the 1920s. Because so many homes are over 100 years old, many need a few updates and repairs. Nearly every home has a single-story design, including ranch styles, bungalows, cottages and Cape Cods. Houses are commonly tucked onto narrow, unpainted back streets marked with low-speed limits and lined with ample deciduous trees.
Cape style homes are common in the Leavittsburg neighboorhood.
Bungalow homes are found throughout the Leavittsburgh neighborhood.

Kayaking the Mahoning River
Most Leavittsburg residents spend time on the Mahoning River when they want to enjoy a day outdoors. Locals mainly access the river at the Canoe City Metropark, a nearly 14-acre respite along the riverbanks. Park amenities include grills, benches and a small playground, but the primary draw is in the boat launch, where locals bring a kayak or canoe. Canoe City Metropark provides access to the Mahoning River Water Trail, a 23-mile trail that meanders throughout Trumbull County. Park-goers also enjoy fishing along the banks or off the metropark’s floating dock. Community members connect at the J.V. Johnson Community Center and Park. The community center features a performance stage, a kitchen and a large open hall ideal for various area events. The rear park features three baseball fields for local leagues and a playground for the kids.
