A rural getaway close to so much
The beautiful alpine community of Lebec might be the perfect rural getaway. Here, mountains and valleys seem to stretch untouched for miles. At night, the countless stars of the Milky Way look close enough to touch. And yet, Lebec is within minutes of outlet stores and restaurants. Imagine spending the morning horseback riding through fields of wildflowers and the afternoon browsing through shops filled with merchandise. “The entire area is very rural. A lot of outdoorsy people who enjoy camping, fishing and hiking love the little mountain towns like Lebec and Grapevine,” says Amanda Mitchell, a local Realtor who grew up in the area. “But because Lebec is located by Interstate 5, it also has plenty of restaurants. The Outlets at Tejon are at Grapevine.” The area, nestled within the Los Padres National Forest, is also home to El Tejon Ranch, California's largest expanse of private land. This working ranch not only raises crops and cattle, but the owners have also set aside thousands of acres of land to remain untouched.
