Village of Bonnybrook
Rec center, golf courses are within walking distance
The Pimlico Recreation Center is within walking distance of the neighborhood. It features a pool, community rooms for socializing, card games and dance classes and outdoor courts for pickleball, bocce and shuffleboard. Adjacent are a pair of the community’s more than 40 9-hole golf courses, all of which are connected by the Executive Golf Trail. The Pimlico Executive Course is known for its level of difficulty as water comes into play on most holes. New greens, tees and fairways were added to the Churchill Greens Executive Course during a renovation in the fall of 2023. Any resident who pays a $195 monthly amenities fee has access to more than 50 golf courses, a variety of recreation centers and more than 3,000 clubs and social activities. The neighborhood also is conveniently located next to one of the community’s five softball complexes. The Buffalo Glen facility holds evaluations every Tuesday morning during the season for men and women interested in competing. “A lot of people think The Villages is just for golf, but that’s just not true,” Martin says. “This is a very active community.” While no one under 19 is allowed to reside in The Villages, children are welcome throughout the community and often can be found immersed in activity at recreation centers. The nearby Saddlebrook Recreation Center offers several Camp Villages programs designed around activities for residents and their grandchildren ages 3-16.Shopping, dining annd entertainment close by
Residents enjoy proximity to several retail and grocery options concentrated around the nearby County Road 466 commercial corridor. Walmart, Marshalls, Bealls, Publix, Fresh Market and Sprouts Farmers Market are among the featured stops. Chains such as Bonefish Grill and Starbucks populate the corridor. “Those are all accessible by golf cart,” Martin says. More diverse dining options and additional shopping options can be found at Lake Sumter Landing, a buzzy waterfront destination that is the most popular of the community’s town squares. It is about 3 miles away and also accessible by golf cart. Martin says. Residents can shop and dine in the shadow of a lake that hums with the activity of guided tours, kayak floats and dragon boat races. The square’s several dozen stores include Barnes & Noble and many independent boutique shops. Residents can bank there, get their hair cut, visit their financial advisor and even catch a movie at Epic Theaters Old Mill Playhouse. Several waterfront restaurants are anchored by the Lighthouse Point Bar & Grill. The square also serves as a popular entertainment center. “To my knowledge, no other community offers live music seven days a week,” Hines says. “It’s the entertainment they have that separates The Villages.”Homebuyers can choose from a variety of options
When it comes to housing, Bonnybrook is the typical Villages neighborhood. “You’ve got patio villas, courtyard villas, ranch-style homes, premier homes and designer homes,” Martin says. “They all have a little bit of everything.” The most common neighborhood home is a three-bedroom, two-bath residence featuring a ranch-style or contemporary design. Standard features include an attached garage and spacious yard, many of which add to the neighborhood curb appeal with custom landscaping. Prices typically range from the low $300,000s to the high $500,000s. Villas are common throughout the community, and the neighborhood offers its fair share of the cozier single-family alternatives. They start in the mid-$200,000s. There are no sidewalks, but a network of paved paths allows for travel by foot, bike and golf cart. A bond payment that goes toward funding the upkeep of infrastructure is typically required of homeowners, although many are paid off before or at the time of sale. Two main roads provide access in and out
One of the potential drawbacks to living in The Villages is traffic, as the community covers almost 60 square miles and has almost 150,000 residents. Residents can alleviate some of that by traveling in their golf carts, and an app can be used to guide them. Hines says if she gets adventurous and is curious about what is happening in The Villages, she will drive her golf cart from one end of the community to the other, a trip that takes about two hours. For travel by car, the neighborhood is conveniently nestled between Belvedere and Buena Vista boulevards, providing quick and easy access in and out. Nearby County Road 466 leads to U.S. Highway 441 and Interstate 75 for travel outside the community. The former connects to Orlando about 60 miles southeast, and the latter connects to Tampa and other Gulf Coast cities further southwest. Orlando Sanford International Airport is a 45-mile drive. Both coasts are roughly 90 minutes away.
