Central living in the country’s biggest retirement community
The Village of Liberty Park is a golf cart ride away from shopping, dining and an impressive array of amenities. This small subdivision lies in the heart of The Villages, the country’s largest retirement community, renowned for its active lifestyle. “This is not a place you’ll come and see frail people with walkers, no. These people will run you over with their golf carts,” says Debbie Martin, a Senior Real Estate Specialist with RE/MAX Premier Realty who's lived in The Villages since 2006. “Still, most folks are in bed by 9:30. This way, they’re up at 5:30 in the morning and out the door by 7 or 8 o’clock, going to golf, play tennis, take an exercise class or do anything really.” In addition to its own community amenities, including a rec center with a pool, Liberty Park abuts an eagle preserve and is surrounded by golf courses. It’s also right off Buena Vista Boulevard, a main road that connects two of The Villages’ most popular commercial areas: Lake Sumter Landing Market Square and Brownwood Paddock Square.

A smaller village with two- and three-bedroom homes
The neighborhood’s residential streets and cul-de-sacs are lined by single-family homes. Many are villas, two- to three-bedroom properties from The Villages' patio villa and courtyard villa series. These smaller residences range from around $250,000 to a little less than $400,000. Designer homes are larger with three- to four-bedroom floor plans. They start in the low $300,000s and price out around $450,000. Homes on the west side of the neighborhood feature golf course views, putting them on the higher end of the price range. All lots are less than a quarter-acre, and there are a number of zero-lot-line properties. Garages are standard; variations are typically large enough for one car and a golf cart or two cars and a golf cart. As with other subdivisions in The Villages, HOAs are mandatory. Monthly amenity fees are just shy of $200.

The Villages are full of recreation
The sheer number of amenities in The Villages is one of its main draws. Each subdivision has its own neighborhood facilities, and Liberty Park is no different. On its western edge is the Liberty Park Pool and Cane Garden championship golf course, a scenic 27-hole course that wraps around a bald eagle preserve. Throughout their rounds, golfers may spot a bald eagle soaring overhead or the odd burrowing owl foraging underfoot. The Allamanda Recreation Center is next to the golf course, less than a mile from Liberty Park. Residents from various surrounding villages meet up here for an array of activities, from billiards and shuffleboard to pickleball and bocce. The center has a pool as well, complete with an assistance lift. More facilities can be found at one of The Villages’ regional complexes. Lake Miona Recreation is the closest to Liberty Park. It has basketball courts, table tennis, a theater, outdoor fitness equipment and plenty of rooms for community clubs to meet. There are more than 3,500 clubs run by residents, including those for pet owners and foodies, as well as niche clubs for hobbyists, such as train collectors and quilters. “If you’re bored here, it’s your own fault,” Martin says. “Because there really is something for everyone.”

Lake Sumter Landing Market Square
Lake Sumter Landing Market Square lies on the beautifully landscaped shores of Lake Sumter, about 2 miles north of Liberty Park. It’s one of The Villages’ four major shopping and dining hubs. Local businesses include the shoe store For Feet’s Sake; The Ancient Olive, a luxury grocery store; and clothing retailers Lalalu and Lime Light Boutique. Shopping is a big draw to the square, but it’s the restaurants people flock to. Redsauce is a wildly popular, family-owned and -operated Italian restaurant. There are also waterfront restaurants and chains like Starbucks and Panera Bread. At the outdoor waterfront venue, Lake Sumter Landing, live music plays and locals dance every night, weather permitting. According to Martin, line dancing is a favorite. From Liberty Park, it's a 5-mile drive south on Buena Vista Boulevard to Brownwood Paddock Square, which is home to more shopping and dining options. Grocery stores, such as Winn-Dixie and Publix, can be found on the edges of both squares.
