Country living outside downtown Lancaster
Anyone who drives to Hornig should be sure to take Hunsecker Road, where they’ll cross over the Hunsecker Mill Covered Bridge and the Conestoga River. Built in 1843, it’s the longest of the 28 covered bridges in Lancaster County and it’s a local favorite spot along this scenic drive. And that’s not the only way to get in and out of town. “Being so close to Route 30, it’s easy to get to just about anything,” says Realtor Tom Garman of Coldwell Banker Realty, who’s sold homes in the Lancaster area for 10 years. “In Hornig, you’re pretty centrally located. There are tons of restaurants, microbreweries and amusement parks in the area.” Despite being close to everything, Hornig remains more rural, and offers residents the serenity of a slow-paced lifestyle while only being about five miles from downtown Lancaster—meaning peace of mind doesn’t come at the cost of convenience.

Traditional-style homes border open farmland
Hornig is a well-spaced suburban community, meaning neighbors are neither miles down the road nor on top of each other. Its houses sit on sizeable 0.25-acre lots within neighborhoods that are often bordered by expansive open farmland, which adds an additional air of charm to this community’s calm country feel. Two-story American traditional-style homes are the most common architectural style here, but ranch-style homes and split-levels are available too. “The homes in Hornig are beautiful,” Garman says, “and inventory is low. Prices don’t tend to drop from the original listing.” The average sales price in Hornig is about $525,000, with three-bedroom single-family homes starting around $300,000. Occasionally, homes in Hornig list for over $700,000, but these are usually custom-built estates that are over 5,000 square feet and feature amenities like large decks, pools and backyard water features. The area is currently undergoing additional development, with lots of new single-family homes and duplexes being built in planned communities. These homes usually include two to four bedrooms and can go for prices between $400,000 and $500,000.
