Colorful city living, just minutes from downtown Lexington
Aylesford Place is located between some of Lexington's most popular areas, from the University of Kentucky to Chevy Chase and even shopping right along Euclid Avenue that residents can walk to, making the neighborhood a great fit for those who love being in the mix of things. "The neighborhood is within a stone's throw of the University of Kentucky, which also makes it a highly sought-after location for students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, or really anyone who wants to be near the bustling energy of a college campus," says Shelby B. Lancaster, Realtor at United Real Estate Lexington. Blending the University of Kentucky's youthful, eclectic culture with the laidback ease of a Lexington suburb, Aylesford Place is filled with a vibrant array of mom-and-pop stores that make each day a new adventure. Step into Black Swan Bookstore, "Which is one of those bookstores where when you walk in, it smells like a bookstore," says local Realtor Paul Chartier; or head to Kentucky Native Café and be transported into a "Fairy world of greenery while dining on delicious food." Within walking distance from home, residents can get groceries, head to the park or take their pick of flavorful, locally-owned restaurants, not to mention everything else that's within bus or driving distance from Aylesford Place. Despite this wealth of nearby stores and recreation, however, "The real currency of Aylesford Place is its community of caring people," says Chartier, explaining that "People come to Lexington from all over the world and they can't believe how nice the people are here." With plenty of things to do, events to bring people together and a storied history to explore throughout the city, residents of Aylesford Place have a prime position to enjoy some of the best that Lexington has to offer.

Diverse Lexington housing with historical charm
Walking through the calm, residential roads of Aylesford Place, residents will notice tall, leafy trees shading the sidewalk, neighbors walking down the street on their way to a local attraction and a spread of unique, historic-looking homes lining the neighborhood's grassy lawns. Although a mix of condos and apartment buildings can be found around Aylesford Place, a majority of the housing stock is made up of single-family homes that were constructed in the early 1900s. While perusing just a few, homebuyers may see colorful wooden siding, spacious front porches and rich detailing, from fluted eves and slate roofs to dormer windows. On South Ashland Avenue, residents can find large estates that range from Colonial Revivals to Queen Annes and American Foursquares, while, closer to the neighborhood's core, Dutch Colonial revivals and smaller bungalows become more common. As a rule of thumb, smaller cottage and bungalow homes can sell from about $200,000 to $370,000 dollars depending on their size and condition, while remodeled and more ornate Craftsman and classical-revival homes can sell from about $500,000 to $750,000 dollars. With an average sales price of about $430,000, homes in Aylesford Place are almost $90,000 dollars more expensive than the average for the Lexington Metro Area.

Welcoming mom-and-pop shops within walking distance
An anchor of the Aylesford Place community is its diverse and welcoming selection of shopping and dining, as well as the many shop owners who run them. "It's the kind of place where when a merchant sees someone trying to park on the street but they're fishing for change and can't find any, they'll come out and put a coin in the meter," says Chartier. While groceries are just a short trip away at the Kroger on Euclid Avenue, residents can also eat out at neighborhood staples like Magee’s Baking Company, which has been open since 1956. On Saturday mornings, locals can often be found eagerly waiting in lines for steaming hot breakfast sandwiches like the Triple Threat, which includes two slices of Applewood smoked bacon, folded eggs, cheddar cheese, and a sausage patty, all on a hand-rolled croissant. For a midday treat, locals can stop by Missy's for "Some of the best pie in the world," according to Chartier, or order a warm brew from High on Art & Coffee before perusing their selection of wall art, clothing and jewelry and grabbing a seat outdoors on the patio. Another option that's considered unique for its understated beauty and pleasant ambiance is the Kentucky Native Café, a botanical oasis where picnic tables and greenery are set up under a light-filled greenhouse and patrons enjoy a rotating menu of lunch food. Residents love their local craft beers with Bavarian pretzels and beer cheese, while their locally sourced gelato and sorbet are also quite popular.
