Centerville
The neighborhood has ranch-style homes and upscale farmland estates
Centerville consists of multi-acre properties and farmland surrounded by long stretches of fencing. The housing ranges from traditional ramblers at the end of narrow gravel driveways to prominent Traditional and Colonial Revival homes with ornate gates. While unmistakably rustic in setting, Cassar says the area is still not as deeply rural as other farmland communities in the country. “It’s not really rural like you would get in the Midwest,” she says. “You’re going to see fencing, lot of trees … but you can always see your neighbor even if they’re a couple miles away in their building or farm.”Homes here mainly sell from about $250,000 to $650,000. Homes under 2,000 square feet may fall below that range, while some of the most upscale properties can exceed $2 million. Centerville’s overall CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, well below the national average of 4.Locals visit boutiques, cafes and bourbon in downtown Paris
Up In Smoke BBQ is a food truck destination in Centerville. Otherwise, many usually make the short trip to Paris to dine and shop. “A lot of us will stay local, most of the time," Cassar says. Then, if we want to really treat ourselves, we’ll go into Lexington."Paris’ historic downtown has boutiques, cafes, a Mexican grocer and a diverse bar and dining scene. The Happy People Coffee Company is a popular morning fueling stop, while treats at the nearby Hopewell Bake Exchange range from artisan breads to soft pretzels and small quiches. Based in the old Paris Train Depot, the Trackside Restaurant & Bourbon Bar serves comfort foods and down-home cooking. Canonero’s Cigar & Bourbon Bar is among a few spots for late-night libations. Paris also has a Walmart.
Going to neighboring Paris for baseball and the Bourbon County Fair
Centerville has no municipal parks, but it is no more than 10 miles, or 15 minutes, from Paris’ recreational amenities. Legion Park is one of the city’s signature sites, with several baseball fields, an animal-themed playground and a small skate park. Legion Park also hosts the Bourbon County Fair, which sees the site light up with carnival rides in June. Other amenities in Paris include the 18-hole Houston Oaks Golf Course. The public venue is considered one of Kentucky’s top courses.Bourbon County High’s strong music program
The Bourbon County Schools district covers Centerville and receives an overall C-plus grade from Niche. The nearest primary-level schools to the community are Bourbon Central Elementary and Cane Ridge Elementary, which both get C-plus grades. Students may then go to Bourbon County middle and high schools, which get C and B-minus grades. One of the high school’s most successful programs is its marching band, which went to the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band also won 15 state and national titles between 2008 and 2023.Paris has Story Fest and the Christmas Candy Land Parade
In addition to the fair, Paris Story Fest occurs over a weekend in May and consists of activities around downtown. Those attending enjoy meals at eateries and later sit for several storytelling sessions. Another major event is December’s Christmas Candy Land Parade, which showcases various holiday-themed floats. The celebration culminates in the Christmas Tree lighting.Centerville has convenient commutes to Lexington and Paris
U.S. Highway 460, or Georgetown Road, goes toward Paris, about 8 miles east. Russell Cave Road crosses U.S. 460 and gives commuters a route toward downtown Lexington, about 15 miles south. The community is 20 miles north of the Blue Grass Airport, the Lexington region’s hub for commercial flights. Residents may go to the Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris for medical needs.
