Residents of Columbia Heights can enjoy Woodland Park, a 19-acre recreational space that includes a skatepark, an indoor aquatic center and a playground. It is the city’s oldest park. The skatepark features ramps, platforms, bowls and pipes. The aquatic center is where residents go to cool off from the heat. The center’s Paradise Lagoon is great for little ones who want to stretch their imaginations. What resembles a pirate ship is a play area that features a spyglass, water sprays and a water bucket to drench whoever stands beneath. The playground features a colorful assortment of swings, slides, monkey bars and other playground equipment. In August, residents come together for the Woodland Art Fair, where they can enjoy food and drinks, live music and view the work of artists from all over the country. Over 70,000 people attend this free cultural event.

There are a few notable restaurants near the Columbia Heights neighborhood. Great Bagel & Bakery is known for organic flour bagels and pastries. From plain to chocolate chip bagels, customers can choose their favorite for a breakfast sandwich. The American is made up of eggs, American cheese and bacon, ham or sausage. For groceries, residents head to the Kroger on Euclid Avenue. There is also The Sage Rabbit with their farm-to-table menu. Order their Beach Bum Burger, which is made with American cheese, spicy Thousand Island dressing and fried egg. There is also the Dreamy Mac & Cheese that can be flavored with chicken, shrimp or vegetables. Josie’s is a Lexington staple. Stop in for breakfast and order the Sausage Gravy & Biscuits or the Chevy Chase Special, which comes with two eggs, breakfast potatoes and a choice of meat.
October street fair brings neighbors together on Euclid Avenue
In October, the community celebrates at the Chevy Chase Street Fair. Hosted on Euclid Avenue, residents come out for live music and support local food, drink and retail vendors. With its prime location near great restaurants and downtown, Columbia Heights is a small neighborhood worth considering.
