Harrods Hill
Farmhouses, ranch-style and new traditional homes
Harrods Hill is an 80% owner-occupied neighborhood primarily comprised of single-family home options. The neighborhood's architectural trends range from Colonial Revivals to ranch-styles to new Traditional designs. The area also features a few townhouse developments built in the 1980s, with values concentrated between $350,000 and $450,000. Condo units vary in price depending on size and location, but can start in the $200,000s and go upwards. Single-family home values range from the mid $500,000s to the mid $800,000s, and the average overall property value here is $100,000 more than the average for the Lexington metro area. Because of this, the market moves quickly, with homes selling after an average of 11 days, or four times faster than the national average. “The increase in things to do has increased home values,” says Coughtry.Academic excellence at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
Harrods Hill students attend Fayette County Public Schools, a district with an overall A-minus rating on Niche. Kids can start out at Rosa Parks Elementary, which receives an A grade and the title of third best public elementary school in the Lexington area by Niche. From there, students can continue onto Beaumont Middle School, which receives an A and ranks as the Lexington area’s fourth best public middle school on Niche. Rounding out their secondary education, students go to Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, which scores an A grade from Niche, which also ranks Dunbar as the top public high school in the Lexington area. One of Kentucky’s largest high schools, Dunbar High has built a reputation for academic excellence, featuring an annual average of 15 National Merit Semifinalists and earning routine ribbons at both the Governor’s Cup State Tournament and the National Academic Quiz Tournaments State Championships. The campus is also home to the Math, Science, and Technology Center (MSTC) magnet program, which accepts 55 of 2500 incoming freshmen annually. Graduates from the program have an average ACT score of 34 and go on to attend some of the nation’s top colleges.Man o’ War and New Circle Road connect residents to the rest of Lexington
Harrods Hill is a car-dependent neighborhood in southwest Lexington, located between New Circle Road, the inner loop around the city, and Man o’ War Boulevard, the outer loop. These loops connect it to the Fayette Mall and other shopping centers, 4 miles east, and the Blue Grass Airport and Keeneland, 3 miles west. Harrodsburg Road connects the neighborhood to downtown, 5 miles away, and a Lextran bus stop provides routes to destinations across the city. The neighborhood’s nearest medical center is CHI St. Joseph Health, 3 miles northeast.Walking trails at Harrods Hill Park
Harrods Hill Park is a nearly 13-acre green space with a playground, basketball and tennis courts, soccer fields and a paved walking loop. “My mom loves the walking trails at Harrods Hill Park,” Coughtry says. “She chooses to walk there out of every park in Lexington.” Three miles north, Cardinal Run Park has additional shaded walking paths and softball and baseball fields.Local dining and retail shopping at Palomar Centre and The Fountains at Palomar
At the corner of Man o’ War and Harrodsburg Road, Palomar Centre is a retail strip with a Walmart Neighborhood Market for groceries and a selection of locally owned restaurants. “Wild Eggs is the place to go for breakfast, and Vinaigrette Salads is a great place to get fresh, healthy salads,” Coughtry says. “Then, you can pop over to Old Kentucky Chocolates for a midday snack and get a steak and a cocktail at Malone’s.” Across Man o’ War from Palomar Centre, The Fountains at Palomar is a new retail development with a mix of local businesses and chains. “The Fountains at Palomar gives southwest Lexington a nice shopping option and more dining options because otherwise, you would've had to go downtown, or farther into south Lexington for food options,” Coughtry says. "And it creates more value by having cute shopping centers with local restaurants nearby like Bella Café & Grille and Papi’s Mexican, alongside chains like Chick-Fil-A and Orangetheory.” She notes that the shopping center will also soon be home to the city’s first Publix grocery store.Horse races at Keeneland and outdoor concerts and movies at the Moondance Amphitheater
Three miles west, Keeneland is a world-class horse racing facility that hosts fall and spring meets attracting visitors from all over the world. The racing season lasts about a month, and ticket prices start at $7 for weekday races and $10 on weekends. Throughout the year, the racecourse is open to the public, where residents can view daily morning horse workouts from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Less than a mile away, the Moondance Amphitheater hosts weekly concerts in the summer and themed events throughout the year, like '80s night tribute bands, themed dance parties and October’s Freaky Flicks outdoor movie series.Crime
Harrods Hill has a 3 out of 10 CAP Index crime score, below the national average of 4.
