Lexington neighborhood going through ‘big change’
The small neighborhood of Liberty Heights has two distinct sides. Located just minutes from downtown Lexington and the University of Kentucky, one side features blocks of century-old cottages that have drawn interest from both investors and first-time homebuyers for their classic charm. The other side is considered the Warehouse Block, where many repurposed industrial buildings house everything from antique and vintage clothing stores to martial arts and fitness studios and even breweries. And the industrial businesses are still here, too. “I like the fact that it’s really kind of mixed-use. There’s a metalworking company, and also a woodworking company that builds doors and furniture. We’re a nonprofit. Then, there are some buildings around here that, for lack of a better word, are ‘man caves,’ where people have their cars and work on them,” says Lisa Fryman, the executive director of the International Book Project Inc. “It’s a very changing area. Just in the last seven years, it’s undergone a big change.”
The Brewer Dude offers Liberty Heights home-brewers a variety of hops and brewing supplies.
The Woodland Art Fair features nearly 200 of the nation's finest artists.

Several of the older houses in Liberty Heights have undergone renovations, like updated wood flooring or colorful new paint jobs. Depending on the size and condition of the home, many properties here run between $100,000 and $200,000. Some investment properties can go for under $100,000, while a few larger refurbished brick houses can go for nearly $300,000.
