The Lexington Ice Center has two rinks. The public gets to use one for general skating, while the other is typically reserved for figure skating and hockey practice. The ice center also has three gyms for various sports and fitness activities. “Volleyball is huge right now, and everybody wants to play pickleball,” Hyde says. The center also has three biblically-themed miniature golf courses, which Hyde says “makes us very unique.” The 13-acre Mount Tabor Park is a community green space with paved trails, a bark-covered playground, and basketball and tennis courts. Highly rated schools at all levels serve this area. Students may start their schooling at Cassidy Elementary, which gets an A from ratings site Niche and provides kids with homework help through their Booster Program. The school’s partnership with the Lexington Children’s Theater also provides opportunities for those interested in performance arts. After Cassidy, students may go on to Morton Middle School and Henry Clay High School, which both receive A grades from Niche. Henry Clay is home tothe Liberal Arts Academy, which provides accelerated learning in subjects like language arts and mathematics. Fans of competitive sports can head to the Lexington Ice Center to watch the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky hockey teams compete; their games usually draw several hundred people. These neighborhoods are also a few miles from the Cathedral of Christ the King school, which hosts the annual Oktoberfest in September. The two-day event is a fundraiser for the church and its affiliated campuses. The Lextran has a few bus stops on Richmond Road, which runs directly to downtown Lexington, about 4 miles north of Patchen Woods and Chippen Dale. “It’s very easy to commute because that neighborhood is close to New Circle Road,” Bowman says. New Circle goes toward destinations like the Blue Grass Airport, which is about 11 miles to the west. The community is also about 5 miles east of the Baptist Health and Albert B. Chandler hospitals.
