Winburn-Griffin Gate
Eat along the course and grab a bourbon at the Marriott
The Marriott Lexington Griffin Gate Golf Resort & Spa offers much more than upscale lodging. One of a few dining establishments at the resort, the Bluegrass Bistro serves a variety of farm to table meals. Guests have the option of enjoying their dinners and drinks on the outdoor patio with views of the course’s tree-lined fairways. Patrons can help themselves to the hotel’s bourbon machines and relax in one of the seats around the Tasting Loft’s electric fire pit. The hotel can also be one of several stops during a whiskey tasting adventure as it’s located on the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Other dining options near Winburn and Griffin Gate include Tachibana Japanese off Newtown Pike. The menu includes sushi, tempura options and ramen, all of which are served in a setting with traditional decor like shoji style panels placed alongside the windows. While it is a few neighborhoods away, many often stop by MiMi’s Southern Style Cooking on New Circle to pick up combo orders of fried chicken, greens and macaroni and cheese. Just up the road from MiMi’s is an ALDI and Walmart. Winburn also has its own neighborhood grocer in the Winburn Fruit Supermarket.Tee time at the Griffin Gate Golf Club and scenic rides on Legacy Trail
Although it’s not officially part of the community, the Griffin Gate Golf Club adjoins Griffin Gate and is a popular destination. In addition to the 18-hole championship course, members have access to both outdoor and indoor pools and a fitness center that comes complete with a variety of strength training equipment. Neighborhood children and teens in Winburn often find themselves at the 37-acre Martin Luther King Park where they can burn off some energy on the playground or on one of a few sports amenities like the basketball courts. The park has been used during spring break as one of several designated spots across the city for children to receive free meals. Residents of both Winburn and Griffin Gate can also let their pets roam at Coldstream Park off Newtown Pike or take to the trails around the moss-covered pond. Cyclists riding along the 12-mile Legacy Trail can use the park as a brief stopping point as the path runs right past the green space. The popular trail connects to destinations like downtown Lexington and the Kentucky Horse Park.Gaming and bourbon conventions right next door
Both Winburn and Griffin Gate have the fortune of being right next door to a relatively new event celebrating one of the state’s most famous commodities. Many in the city look forward to BourbonCon, which started in January 2023 and takes place at the Marriott. Those who book tickets for the weekend-long event can sample whiskeys from more than 30 distilleries. Another event with a dedicated and growing following is the LexiCon Tabletop Gaming Convention, which takes place in April at the Clarion Hotel Conference Center - North. The hundreds who attend this unique event can play a variety of board, card and role-playing games.Ranch-styles, Craftsmen and townhouses in gated community
Much of the homes on Winburn’s residential blocks back into groups of trees. Common builds include brick ranch-style houses from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as more modern single-story houses with Craftsman and Traditional features. Price points can go from just over $160,000 for a 1970s ranch-style house to nearly $255,000 for a house with Craftsman touches and that was built in the 2010s. A remodeled ranch-style house can also fall on the upper end of that range. Griffin Gate features more Traditional builds, many of which are townhouses and patio homes — attached houses that are often no taller than a single story. Some of the community’s homes can be quite opulent, featuring distinct details like older stone, brick and vinyl siding. “Each section of Griffin Gate has its own little character,” Winger says. Price points in this pocket of Lexington can go from about $350,000 for a two-bedroom townhouse to $450,000 for a house located right along the course.Bryan Station High and district’s only Air Force JROTC program
Public schools serving part of Lexington include Mary Todd Elementary School, Winburn Middle School and Bryan Station High School, which respectively received grades of B-minus, B and B from ratings site Niche. Among Bryan Station High’s extracurricular activities is Fayette County Public Schools’ only Air Force JROTC program. The high school also houses the StationArts program, which attracts students from across the city. Subjects offered under the program include visual arts, theater and learning instruments like the classical guitar.I-64 route to nearby Lexington communities

That includes the Hamburg Area and its regional shopping destination to the south. I-64 connects to Interstate 75, which runs past the Kentucky Horse Park to the north. Several Lextran bus stops exist within Winburn. Both communities sit about a 10-mile drive east of the Blue Grass Airport. Both neighborhoods are also about a 6-mile drive north of the downtown Lexington medical campus that includes the Albert B. Chandler Hospital.
