Located on the Washington-Idaho border, roughly equidistant from Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, Liberty Lake offers a scenic blend of suburban amenities and natural beauty. The city, named for the stunning lake just south of town, is known for its outdoorsy atmosphere and easy access to the two largest metros in the area. “It’s popular for a lot of reasons: the scenery, the location, the houses,” says local Realtor Mike Bass of 21 Beutler & Associates and lifelong area resident. “There has been a ton of development in the area, so if you’re looking for a modern home with modern appliances, it's easy to find here. Washington state’s lack of income tax also draws a lot of people who work across the border in CDA.” The town of Liberty Lake wasn’t officially incorporated until 2001. Before then, housing in the area was mostly limited to custom-built homes alongside the lake. That has changed dramatically in recent years. Multiple golf courses, numerous upscale subdivisions and a sizeable commercial district have all sprung up over the last couple of decades, utterly transforming the local landscape.

While tourism plays a significant role, the Coeur d'Alene also has a growing tech industry.

The local housing market is mostly made up of large contemporary homes in recently built master-planned communities. There are also a few condos available near the center of town. The Rocky Hill and River District neighborhoods feature modern homes with open floor plans and convenient access to parks and trails. The gated Legacy Ridge community provides larger properties with scenic views of the valley and golf courses. Condos in the city go for $300,000 to $400,000, while single-family homes can go for anywhere from $450,000 to a little over $1 million. Liberty Lake’s violent and property crime rates are generally well below state averages, according to the FBI’s data. Parts of the city, particularly southside neighborhoods close to forests, do have a high wildfire risk.
