New home communities near shops and restaurants in growing Marion County
The southwest Ocala suburb of Liberty Triangle is quickly becoming its own urban center. This community features new homes near a growing number of shops and restaurants. As development continues, it's becoming the heart of Ocala, according to Realtor Gabriella Vance with Ocala Realty World. "I compare it to a future Altamonte Springs or Winter Park," says Vance, a second-generation realtor in the area. "It already has anything you want within a five-minute drive, and you can even walk from some of the subdivisions. It will be more and more that way as time goes by."
Liberty Triangle is becoming a hub for homes, shops, and dining, evolving into a self-sufficient area.

New home communities with ranch and New Traditional styles
Builders have targeted this area since the late 1980s. The subdivisions include stucco homes with hipped roofs, ranch-style houses and New Traditional homes with Mediterranean or Craftsman-inspired designs. Most of these are HOA communities with varying fees. The median single-family home price is about $300,000, comparable to Ocala. Ocala Waterway Estates offers larger lots for a higher price range of about $310,000 to about $500,000. Some larger equestrian estates can climb above $1 million.

Standout magnet programs at West Port High School
West Port High School is a standout school in the area with an A-minus grade from niche and magnet programs for visual and performing arts, biomedical science and global logistics. "They have these very intrictate programs that other high schools in the county don't have," Vance says. Students on the community's north side usually attend Hammett Bowen Jr. Elementary, which gets a B from Niche, while students on the south side usually attend Marion Oaks Elementary, which gets a B-minus. Kids can progress to the the B-minus-rated Liberty Middle School.
West Port High School is a highly rated public school serving 2,825 students in grades 9-12.
Liberty Middle School is a public school serving 1,315 students in grades 6-8.
Marion Oaks Elementary School is a public school serving 910 students in grades PK, K-5.

Playgrounds, golf courses and equestrian trails
At the pine-shaded Liberty Community Park, kids can climb on either of the two playgrounds or kick a ball around the open field. A paved trail loops around the wooded landscape. Golfers can tee off at the semi-private Royal Oaks Golf Club, which belongs to the 55-plus Oak Run community. The nearby Candler Hills Golf Club offers various rates to the public and hosts the Ocala Open every spring. The nearby Florida Greenway trail system is open to hikers and horseback riders.

Shops and restaurants on SR 200, many more on the way
The essentials are nearby on SR 200, home to Walmart Neighborhood Market, Publix and Aldi. Restaurants also line the strip, such as Little Joey's, which serves Italian classics such as pizza and calzones alongside hot and cold subs. The new Market at Cherrywood features a Publix, a nail salon, an ice cream shop and a coffee shop. Biggby Coffee offers a lengthy list of smoothies, energy drinks, boba teas and lattes. About 20 new restaurants opened in Ocala in 2024, and about 13 more are on the way.

Family-friendly events and equestrian competitions
The Ocala calendar includes holiday activities, music festivals and art shows. Live music, vendors and a downtown lighting ceremony help to ring in the holiday season at Light Up Ocala. The Florida Springs Festival celebrates Ocala's freshwater springs with glass-bottom boat tours, food and craft vendors, live music and mermaid appearances at Silver Springs State Park. Time magazine named Ocala's World Equestrian Center one of the World's Greatest Places in 2024. It brings in the top jumping teams from across the world with the Longines League of Nations. The entertainment includes non-equestrian events such as the Ocala Food & Wine Festival.

Infrastructure projects aim to solve I-75 traffic issues
SR 200 leads directly to Ocala, about 12 miles north. Interstate 75 connects to the Florida Turnpike toward Orlando, about 70 miles southeast. Traffic is a concern for Liberty Triangle residents, especially on I-75 and the nearest exit on Highway 484. New auxiliary lanes are in the works from north Ocala to the southern end of The Villages. "It will really change this entire ecosystem," Vance says.
