Open land, miles of forest and a flowing river create a spacious country lifestyle that gives meaning to Liberty’s name. This rural place of around 9,000 people ties nature and community together, with stomping grounds for parades, antiquing and comfort food. "There is a different genre of folk [in Liberty] that are there raising young kids who want a grassroots upbringing for their children," says Realtor Terri Beight, who works for Premier Property Group. Liberty Independent School District, local hospitals, warehouses and manufacturing companies are major employers in the area.

Cotton candy cuties at the Trinity Valley Exposition Baby Parade
Liberty Jubilee is a signature event held downtown in March since 1986. It brings the community together for a barbecue cookoff, the Liberty Municipal Library's book and bake sale, live entertainment from a main stage, and rides for the kids.
The Trinity Valley Exposition Baby Parade, held in the fall, began in 1914 at the Liberty County Fair. In 2024, Liberty's littlest were decked out in circus costumes for "The Greatest Show on Earth." Participants in the "riding division" floated by in decorated prams and cabooses, dressed up as cotton candy, lions and magicians.
A little shopping and history in downtown Liberty
Liberty is the third-oldest city in Texas and has historic landmarks to match. The downtown area's banks, family-owned restaurants, antique stores and other local businesses circle its old courthouse, which houses the first exact replica of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. "Downtown is full, and it's a hybrid. Some businesses move in and out, but it stays pretty consistent," Beight says. Jax Hamburgers is a feature that's been around for over 20 years. Liberty Farmers Market happens downtown four days a week. Downtown Houston and Beaumont are within 45 miles for major shopping.
