This rural place of around 9,000 people ties nature and community together, with stomping grounds for parades, antiquing and comfort food. A little shopping and history in downtown Liberty
Liberty is the third-oldest city in Texas and has historic landmarks to match. The downtown area's banks, family-owned restaurants, antique stores and other local businesses circle its old courthouse, which houses the first exact replica of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. "Downtown is full, and it's a hybrid. Some businesses move in and out, but it stays pretty consistent," Beight says. Jax Hamburgers is a feature that's been around for over 20 years. Liberty Farmers Market happens downtown four days a week. Downtown Houston and Beaumont are within 45 miles for major shopping.
