Greentree
Suburban Neighborhood in Libertyville, Illinois
Lake County 60048
Well-kept late-20th century homes
A drive down Greentree’s residential streets will likely lead to one of many cul-de-sacs spread throughout the neighborhood. Within the center of each are grassy medians that feature a single streetlight, as well as a tree or flowering shrubbery. Sitting back are similarly cared-for front yards featuring trimmed hedges and sidewalks that remain clean. Developed in the 1970s, architectural split-level-style homes spanning through the 1980s line most of the community. Similarly, varying styles, such as Dutch Colonials and Tudors, appear occasionally throughout. A pocket of townhomes is located in the southeastern corner of the neighborhood and presents a price range from $270,000 to $380,000, depending on size and condition. Meanwhile, free-standing homes range from $415,000 to $675,000. It’s also worth noting that homes here are serviced by a handful of different homeowners associations, each with an adjoining fee and specific services.Attending annual events in Cook Park
Downtown Cooke Park is the beating heart of the Libertyville community. “Most of our annual events and festivals occur at Cook Park,” Likus says. From June through mid-October, locals peruse the MainStreet Libertyville Farmers Market every Thursday morning. Vendors line both the park and Church Street, bringing local produce, baked goods and more to those stopping by. Support for local businesses is also encouraged on First Fridays, when shops and restaurants remain open later than usual, with some offering refreshments and sales on in-store items. “Come March, downtown Libertyville also hosts Let's Wine About Winter. All the stores are open, and each one will fill your wine glass when you come in,” Likus says.High School District 128's Foundation for Learning
Hawthorn Community Consolidated School District No. 73 serves the area’s youngest students. Its highly-ranked schools include Hawthorn Elementary School North, which offers a School of Dual Language and Hawthorn Middle School North, both of which maintain an A-minus rating on Niche. Older students head to schools within the Community High School District 128, which offers the option of school choice. As a result, students can enroll in classes at either A-rated Libertyville High School or A-plus-rated Vernon Hills High School. The district is home to the Foundation For Learning, a non-profit that raises funds to support students through Transition Pathways, which focuses on unique individual needs, as well as scholarships and more. Private schooling is also available nearby, including St. Johns Lutheran School, Libertyville Montessori School, St. Joseph Catholic School, and Carmel Catholic High School, all within 3 miles of the neighborhood.Stops along South Milwaukee Avenue
Trips to enjoy a bowl of pho alongside other traditional Vietnamese offerings at Viet Taste Libertyville take place within the neighborhood along its eastern side. This convenience is thanks to Milwaukee Avenue, which borders directly east, connecting residents to grocers like Jewel-Osco and the indoor retail stores of Hawthorn Mall, situated a mile south. The throughway is also home to The Parched Pug, a pug-themed gastropub, which offers a self-pour beer wall and fills up every Thursday evening for trivia.Getting around via Intersate 94
Interstate 94 is 4.7 miles southeast, allowing for 39-mile drives to downtown Chicago in the same direction. Those traveling out of the area can reach their flights at Chicago O’Hare International Airport off West Balmoral Avenue, 24 miles south. Closer to home are classes at the University of St Mary of the Lake’s Mundelein campus, 4 miles northwest, and Advocate Condell Medical Center, off South Milwaukee Avenue one mile north. Residents can also take advantage of Pace Suburban Bus stops, which line South Milwaukee Avenue and connect riders to surrounding communities to the north and south.Afternoon strolls to Greentree Park
Residents can make afternoon strolls to Greentree Park in the community’s southwestern corner. Here, little ones can explore a tree-themed playground and enjoy afterschool snacks with friends and family at one of several shaded picnic tables. The neighboring Lake Charles Park welcomes those seeking out a bit of wildlife within the surrounding suburbs. Alongside a public fishing pier, its half-mile paved trail teems with yellow and purple flowers in the springtime. When winter rolls around, many make the 3-mile drive south to Century Park Sledding Hill to spend a day in the snow.
