A walkable subdivision situated along South Milwaukee Avenue
A subdivision of Libertyville, Greentree maintains a neat residential landscape offering walking distance to its namesake park and immediate access to nearby amenities. Though similar in presentation to surrounding communities, where well-kept late-20th-century homes line residential streets, the neighborhood’s location along South Milwaukee Avenue’s western side allows for short trips to an array of retail and dining opportunities. With downtown events like First Friday and the MainStreet Libertyville Farmers Market 2 miles north combining Greentree’s convenience with a sense of community, many plant roots for years to come. “People tend to stay when they get here, as do their kids and grandkids,” says Megan Likus, principal broker with Compass, who has lived in Libertyville for 10 years. “It’s one of the reasons why the community is so close-knit.”
Well-kept late-20th century homes
A drive down Greentree’s residential streets will likely lead to one of many cul-de-sacs spread throughout the neighborhood. Within the center of each are grassy medians that feature a single streetlight, as well as a tree or flowering shrubbery. Sitting back are similarly cared-for front yards featuring trimmed hedges and sidewalks that remain clean. Developed in the 1970s, architectural split-level-style homes spanning through the 1980s line most of the community. Similarly, varying styles, such as Dutch Colonials and Tudors, appear occasionally throughout. A pocket of townhomes is located in the southeastern corner of the neighborhood and presents a price range from $270,000 to $380,000, depending on size and condition. Meanwhile, free-standing homes range from $415,000 to $675,000. It’s also worth noting that homes here are serviced by a handful of different homeowners associations, each with an adjoining fee and specific services.

Attending annual events in Cook Park
Downtown Cooke Park is the beating heart of the Libertyville community. “Most of our annual events and festivals occur at Cook Park,” Likus says. From June through mid-October, locals peruse the MainStreet Libertyville Farmers Market every Thursday morning. Vendors line both the park and Church Street, bringing local produce, baked goods and more to those stopping by. Support for local businesses is also encouraged on First Fridays, when shops and restaurants remain open later than usual, with some offering refreshments and sales on in-store items. “Come March, downtown Libertyville also hosts Let's Wine About Winter. All the stores are open, and each one will fill your wine glass when you come in,” Likus says.
