Eastridge welcomed innovation in new home design when founded in 1950
Shortly after World War II, Lincoln began to rapidly develop eastward, a growth fueled by the influx of thousands of young families in need of new homes and retail destinations. The midsized neighborhood of Eastridge provided both -- both then and today.
About 500 brand-new ranch-style homes were built by the well-known Strauss brothers between 1950 and 1970. Featuring low-pitched gable roofs and prefabricated but high-quality materials, the homes initially sold from $5,000 to $10,000. The Strauss brothers went on to build more than 35,000 homes in Lincoln and Omaha. Nearby Gateway Mall, which opened in 1960, offered retailers closer to home than downtown. Today, Gateway Mall is still the largest shopping center in Lincoln.
Eastridge neighborhood also includes Eastridge Pool, Pius X Catholic High School, Eastridge Elementary and the Unitarian Church of Lincoln. A thriving retail corridor along O Street's north edge offers fast food, grocery stores, gas stations and retail shops.
Eastridge is filled with Mid-Century Modern style homes.

It’s a 4-mile drive to the Nebraska State Capitol for Eastridge residents who work in Downtown Lincoln. Residents who commute to Downtown Omaha will drive about 60 miles along interstate U.S. 80. Lincoln Airport is 8 miles west of Eastridge. Drivers can make the trip in less than 15 minutes with Lincoln’s typically minimal traffic. While residents often walk and bike inside Eastridge, cars and Star Tran buses are the most popular transportation outside the neighborhood.
Eastridge Pool is the second-best feature of the neighborhood
While there are no city parks inside the boundaries of Eastridge, the community does boast private Eastridge Pool. The pool is heated and has six twenty-five-yard swim lanes that are used for swim meets and lap swimming. The community also offers a baby pool. Swim lessons, diving instruction, and competitions between other Lincoln pools are offered during the summer months.
“Eastridge Pool is one of Lincoln's most well-loved neighborhood pools,” says Realtor Bakewell. “They stay open two hours later than city public pools and they’re open until Labor Day which is three weeks longer than the city pools.”
