Fans of old homes will find some of Lincoln’s oldest ones in Everett
Everett is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Lincoln. Notable for its particularly wide streets, roundabouts and seamless blend of homes, apartment buildings, businesses and restaurants together on one block, Everett feels like a classic urban residential neighborhood from the early 1900s. Highly walkable and bike-friendly, designated bike lanes along 11th Street and 13th Street lead to the Nebraska State Capitol, which is half a mile from the northeast corner of Everett.
Realtor Matt Kirkland, Owner of Giving Realty and a real estate agent in Lincoln for more than 20 years, says, “Everett sits right in the shadow of the Nebraska State Capitol – you can see it easily driving around the neighborhood – so it makes sense that we have a lot of lawyers, politicians and government employees who live here. At the same time, we also have a broad mix of urbanites, from young professionals and families with kids to single people of all ages who love living in historic houses.” Fans of old homes gravitate to Everett, where the median year homes were built was 1909.

The Nebraska State Capitol and Memorial Stadium offer regular events
The Nebraska State Capitol is fascinating for historians and architecture fans, and it’s a great place to learn more about the 37th state. Attending Supreme Court sessions and taking tours of the eight-sided Memorial Chamber and the 14th-floor observation deck are essential for all Lincolnites. Memorial Stadium is home to the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers and their 85,000 fans, known as The Sea of Red. After home games, fans celebrate or commiserate along the streets of Haymarket, the downtown district surrounding the stadium.
