Enticing new contemporary-style homes abound in Family Acres
One of the first things buyers notice about the overall vibe of Family Acres, about 6 miles south of downtown Lincoln, is the number of contemporary homes. While the expansive neighborhood of several small subdivisions is not far from the state capital and its historic late 1800s neighborhoods, buyers in Family Acres will find few, if any, properties of that vintage. What they will discover, though, are plenty of one-story villas with long horizontal lines, new, open-concept ranch-style homes with artfully pitched roofs, and two-story contemporary homes.
With about 2,400 homes – and more to come – Family Acres is a collection of subdivisions with midsize homes of three to four bedrooms. Home prices range from about $200,000 to $500,000. Easy-to-access artery roads connect residents to retail corridors. Nebraska Parkway bisects Family Acres, connecting residents to parks and schools and travelers across the state to South Dakota.

Contemporary homes from the 1970s to today offer mid-size, family-friendly styles
Family Acres offers a wide variety of 20th- and 21st-century styles, from villas and ranch-style homes to split levels and brand-new two-story. Compared to older neighborhoods closer to downtown Lincoln, most Family Acres homes were built between 1970 and 2010. One-story, two-bedroom villas have recently sold from $250,000 to $500,000. Multi-level contemporary homes with four bedrooms have recently sold from about $340,000 to $450,000. New homes in new subdivisions such as The Preserve at Antelope Creek have recently sold from about $650,000 to $840,000. According to Saul Bakewell, a Realtor with Nebraska Realty for more than 10 years and a resident of Family Acres, “Homes in good shape will generally sell within 10-15 days. Family Acres is super popular with young families. They want a newer home, good schools and nearby amenities. I tell clients that almost anything you need or want can be reached in less than 10 minutes.”
Bakewell says, “The subdivisions are designed in such a way that you have both public and private schools in every corner of the community. For example, people who live near Maxey Elementary might also consider St. Joseph School and St. Michael’s Catholic School.”
