Overlooking miles of protected prairie land but just eight miles from Downtown Lincoln
Adjacent to more than 1,000 acres of preserved prairie, residents of Porter Ridge can take in views that have hardly changed in centuries. From undeveloped flat landscapes covered by towering white clouds to floodplains interrupted by 44-mile-long Salt Creek, it's easy to see nothing built for miles in this small and relatively young south Lincoln neighborhood,
“Homebuyers certainly come to Porter Ridge for the great schools and the short commute to downtown,” says Saul Bakewell, realtor with Nebraska Realty for over 10 years, “but I’ve also found that a powerful attraction here is its direct access to Wilderness Park. Bikers, runners, hikers and naturalists tell me they feel like they hit the jackpot living this close to unspoiled land. I know a few residents here who fish several days a week before or after work. It’s a rare thing to live on the edge of protected prairie land.” About 80% of the neighborhood is made up of single-family homes. Porter Park and the retail corridor at the west and north edges make up the remaining 20% of the community.
