Lindenwood offers a small community and remote living

With miles of farmland in every direction and less than one person per acre of land, Lindenwood offers secluded country living. The small community has only a few hundred people, including "good, country people and parents who want their kids to get out in the fresh air," says Robin Henry, Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Signature, who has been selling in the area for over 30 years. "Living there means living in a community where people know one another, and there is a low crime rate." Lindenwood's CAP Index crime score is 1 out of 10, well below the national average of 4. While the neighborhood is remote, it's a short drive from two cities and their schools, parks, and shopping centers, keeping Lindenwood connected to the outside world.

Limited homes from the 20th century that are rarely bought and sold

Lindenwood has two small clusters of homes at its center, with bungalows, Cape Cods and workers' cottages from the early 20th century south of Lindenwood Road and mid-century style homes to the north. Outside the small neighborhood center are farmhouses and farmsteads, often with many acres of corn and grain. Houses rarely go up for sale in Lindenwood but range in value between $150,000 and $500,000. The average home value for Lindenwood is $275,000, about half the national average.

Driving to Rochelle, Rockford or Chicago for everyday needs

Interstate 39 passes through Lindenwood, going north to Rockford and south to Rochelle. Rochelle Community Hospital is 10 miles south, and the nearest airport is Chicago Rockford International Airport. Mostly used for cargo flights, the airport also has commercial flights to 10 destinations. Chicago O'Hare International Airport offers more flights and airlines and is 77 miles east via Interstates 39 and 90. Cars are a necessary part of life in the area as no public transportation is available.

Most students can walk to Eswood Community Consolidated Grade School

According to Henry, "Many people move to Lindenwood so their kids can go to a small, well-rated school." Eswood Community Consolidated Grade School teaches kindergarten through eighth grade and is rated B by Niche. The little school, one of the only non-residential buildings in Lindenwood, is at the center of the neighborhood, near the two main clusters of homes. "The little Lindenwood school is also very fiscally sound, unlike what you usually see in such small towns," Henry says. Children then attend Rochelle Township High School, rated B-plus.

Parks are in the nearby cities and villages

Lindenwood has no parks, but Davis Junction Community Park is a few miles northwest. The green space has softball diamonds, soccer fields and basketball courts for pick-up games and practice. There is also a playground, pavilion and skatepark. More small neighborhood parks are south in Rochelle, and Rockford to the north has large forest and nature preserves to explore.

Going elsewhere for dining out and running errands

Lindenwood residents accept they'd have to leave the area for shopping and dining. "I've worked with people who move from Rochelle to Lindenwood and aren't used to having to drive everywhere," Henry says. "They don't know what to do when they run out of milk, but Rochelle is only 15 minutes away, not two hours. You just buy it when you're in town." Rochelle has a Walmart, fast-food chains and home improvement stores. The City of Rockville is slightly further away, with more extensive shopping, including the CherryVale Mall and plazas along East State Road.
