A rural community with room to breathe in southern New Hampshire

Litchfield sits east of the Merrimack River and northeast of Nashua. While the neighborhood is close to the city, it is a very different lifestyle. “The area is very rural, with lots of open space,” Thomas McPherson with RE/MAX says. McPherson has lived in the area for over 25 years and has several years of local real estate experience. “If you want to be in a quainter town near the cities, this is the place for you, with lots of farmland and two-acre lots.”

Family-centric homes with spacious yards in Litchfield

Homes in Litchfield come in various shapes and sizes, including ranch-style houses and Cape Cod-style homes. Prices range from $330,000 for some ranch-style places to more than a million dollars for some Cape Cods. The neighborhood also offers some unique, multi-generational housing options. “They are great for families taking care of family,” says McPherson. “They are like duplexes but designed for families, like having two houses.”

Explore forested nature trails at Benson Park

Litchfield locals have plenty of outdoor recreational activities at their disposal. Litchfield State Forest has miles of trails for residents and visitors to explore natural surroundings and see if they can spot wildlife. The nearby Merrimack River is a fishing hot spot because of the excellent fish population. Robinson Pond sits in the northeast end of the area, with easy access to the water for boating and kayaking. Just south of the neighborhood in Hudson, residents visit Benson Park. This former wild animal farm is now a vast expedition of trails and ponds with several sights, including the former animal cages.

Race down to the Hudson Speedway

Head down to nearby Hudson on the weekend for the Hudson Speedway, one of the most popular drag racing tracks. Locals will head to Hudson in the summertime for the Hudson Old Home Days carnival and spectacle, featuring fireworks, carnival rides, games and vendors.

Enjoy a steak dinner in a rustic atmosphere at Buckley's Great Steaks

Residents must leave the neighborhood for shopping and dining, but they won’t need to go far. Across the Merrimack River is Buckley’s Great Steaks, a steakhouse with a rustic tavern that serves wood-grilled steaks and seafood from four to nine p.m. Don Ramon is a short drive from Buckley’s, and offers Mexican food favorites like tacos, fajitas and guacamole. Swing by Thirsty Moose Tap House for a few drinks and some pub food at the end of the day. Litchfield Food Mart is a local grocery store where residents can pick up essentials like bread and beverages. Shaw’s supermarket has more grocery options for residents, including deli meats, pantry essentials and produce. Merrimack Premium Outlets is where people shop for major brands like Adidas, Calvin Klein and Loft.

Located 8 miles north of Nashua

Litchfield is a car-dependent neighborhood — there isn’t any public transportation, and it isn't very walkable. However, residents can get to where they need to go quickly by car. “You’re a budding town to Nashua, so it is very conveniently located near everything,” McPherson says. “You can jump on route three and ride that up to Manchester.”
