As you circle the cul-de-sacs in South Geyer Springs, you’ll notice lush green lawns, meticulously manicured hedges and a serene yet central setting. “This area is away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it also has easy freeway access,” says Debbie Teague, a sales associate with The Janet Jones Company. The southwest Little Rock neighborhood also evokes suburban charm from two different eras.
The northern half has 1970s ranch styles with L-shaped or sprawling layouts. There are also split levels with stone facades or low-sloping asymmetrical roofs. “The older homes are great for anyone wanting to put their own personal touch on a house,” says Teague. “They may need some renovations, but the exteriors are really unique.” The southern region of the neighborhood has New Traditional homes from the early 2000s with three bedrooms and two-car garages. But no matter what decade the house is from, a reasonable price is the norm in South Geyer Springs. One of these dwellings typically costs between $150,000 and $350,000, a range similar to a Little Rock home’s average $150,000 selling price.
At the Geyer Springs Shopping Center, residents are a quick drive away from a few restaurants and retailers. Stop by El Alamo for Mexican classics, like the big burrito with chicken, grilled onion, queso and black beans stuffed inside a handmade tortilla. You can also grab groceries at Kroger or Food Wise if you’d rather make a meal at home. With proximity to Interstate 30, the neighborhood is also about 5 miles from the Outlets of Little Rock, a regional retail destination. Get new tennis shoes at Nike, browse the kitchen gear at Le Creuset or buy a new outfit at Old Navy. Less than 10 miles on Geyer Springs Road will also lead to Little Rock’s bustling core, where you can find even more shopping options at the Park Plaza Mall and ample locally owned eateries along Cantrell Road.
Children in South Geyer Springs attend Chicot Elementary, which is a certified Leader in Me school. Students can also learn about the environment when they work in the school’s garden. After fifth grade, students go to Cloverdale Middle. Thanks to the school's partnership with Verizon, every student receives an iPad with free data. Lastly, at Little Rock Southwest High School, students benefit from a brand-new campus. It reopened in 2020 with 65 classrooms, a fully equipped science lab, two media centers and a gymnasium. The school also has a career magnet program, where students can take classes focused on medical science, business or public service. Each pathway leads to an industry certification or college credit.
A couple of green spaces also surround the neighborhood. For instance, Thom Park is within walking distance, and the wide-open terrain is perfect for a game of catch or a peaceful stroll. The 43-acre Morehart Park is less than 3 miles from South Geyer Springs. Run around the playground, practice your serve on the tennis court, throw around a frisbee on the 18-hole disc golf course or shoot hoops on the basketball court.
