Ranch homes and bungalows in Central Lodi
Central Lodi’s single-family homes sit in subdivisions shaded by palm and pine trees. Home styles and pricing vary, depending on their location within the neighborhood. Throughout Central Lodi, streets are paved and narrow, and their well-tended sidewalks are dotted with lampposts. Midcentury ranch-style homes and small, Craftsman bungalows have two to three-bedrooms and brick and vinyl exteriors, plus one-car garages and small, grassy backyards in the neighborhood’s northeastern corner. Prices range from $350,000 to $550,000. Spanish-influenced new traditional homes built in the early 2000s sit closer to the neighborhood center, with well-landscaped lawns, large back patios and the occasional in-ground pool. Home prices here range between $650,000 and $850,000. New traditional properties from the 2020s sit close together near the neighborhood’s western border, with views of distant grape vineyards. Prices start around $700,000.Updates to grassy Ed DeBenedetti Park
The 48-acre Ed DeBenedetti Park has paved walking paths, loads of open green space and rentable soccer fields that double as stormwater retention basins. In 2019, the city approved a multi-year DeBenedetti Park Master Plan, and by 2023, a new parking lot, benches and small playground areas were installed. Folks can also head to the tree-covered, 13-acre Beckman Park to practice their swing at its baseball fields or run around the dog park with their pets. Hutchins Street Square in downtown Lodi is a massive facility, acting as a performing arts, conference and community center with an indoor pool. California Islamic Center is a 3-mile drive south of Central Lodi and serves as a multi-purpose facility for prayer rituals, volunteer events, and summer camps.
Long list of clubs at Tokay High
Central Lodi is zoned for the Lodi Unified School District. Kids start at Ellerth E. Larson Elementary, which scores a B from Niche, and continue to Lodi Middle, which earns a C-plus. Tokay High is rated a B and has a variety of student organizations like Cooking Club and the Muslim Student Association.Hanging out at the Lodi Street Faire
In May and October, residents venture downtown for the bi-annual Lodi Street Faire. Artisans set up white tents in a 14-block location to sell food, crafts and curated artwork. Attendees can munch on sweet treats while watching traditional Mexican folklorico dances and musical performances. The Lodi Certified Farmers Market is another go-to attraction on Thursday evenings from May to September. Locals can look through crates of local produce, cheese and meat, and enjoy live music in the beer and wine garden.Car-dependent community with bus stops throughout
State Route 12 borders Central Lodi to the north, linking it to nearby East Lodi. U.S. Route 99 is 2 miles east of the area. It connects to Stockton about 13 miles south and Sacramento 37 miles north. Central Lodi is mostly car-dependent, but folks can also walk along sidewalks in some parts. Roads like Lower Sacramento and South Mills Avenue also include bike lanes. Grape Line Express buses make stops in and around the area’s northern border. Adventist Health Lodi Memorial Hospital is a 2-mile commute north, and Sacramento International Airport is about 50 miles away.Thrifting at the Vineyard Shopping Center
Walmart Supercenter and Food 4 Less are the primary grocery stores within the neighborhood. Costco Wholesale is also 2 miles east close to Reynolds Ranch shopping mall which features a Dick’s Sporting Goods and Home Depot along with some fast-food chains. Locals can travel to Vineyard Shopping Center for hair coloring and styling at Salon Pure and vintage clothing at Classy Rags Thrift Store. Retailers like Goodwill and Kohl’s are nearby, and Kettleman Lane is dotted with local restaurants, including Strings Italian Café and Casa Mexicana, known for its homemade tortillas. Two miles northwest, The Van Ruiten Family Winery offers red and white wine flights in its flower-covered back patio.Initiative to combat homelessness
Reno says homelessness can be an issue in the Central Lodi area, with the number of unsheltered people up by about 50% since 2019. To address this, in 2022, the city opened a temporary Access Center along Sacramento Street near the neighborhood. Local non-profit Inner City Action has been operating the white-tented area, helping individuals gain independence through mental health treatment and hot meals. By 2025, the city of Lodi hopes to expand the center, making it a permanent facility where people experiencing homelessness can stay in over 130 individual house shelters in a tree-lined garden setting and receive hygiene care and job assistance.
