Loganville is a convenient York County borough with a hometown feel
Even though it has its own exit on Interstate 83, Loganville is one of the southern York County boroughs that keeps a lower profile. “Loganville is small enough that people might not know it exists, but it's so easy to get on I-83, and it feels like the kind of hometown that you’re proud to say you’re from,” says Ruby Darr, Team Leader at RE/MAX Patriots in York who has lived in Loganville for 50 years. Although the borough’s population is easily under 2,000, long-preserved connections to neighboring Jacobus Borough and Springfield Township extend the pool of Loganville’s favorite community events, small-town businesses and highly rated regional schools, all set in the tranquil, rural hills and dales that roll between York City and the Maryland border.
Shopping and dining along Main Street
The spread-out commercial strip along Main Street is peppered with mom-and-pop restaurants and larger chains. Near the gas station and Dollar General just north of the Loganville, Mama’s Pizza is the go-to spot for Italian staples and subs. Stepping into Brown’s Farm Market on the borough’s southern end, the smell of apples or strawberries clues shoppers into what’s in season in the surrounding orchards, fields and greenhouses. When it comes to the market’s selection of baked goods and prepared foods, Darr finds it hard to pick a favorite: “Golly, they have it all – there’s fresh peach pies, homemade bread and ciders. They even have a delicatessen area and sell Lancaster County coffee, which is delicious.” For big box shopping or more restaurants, locals are likely to head to the strip malls or downtown businesses farther north in York County.

A mix of single-family homes built in the pastoral Central PA landscape
Main Street is lined with the National-style homes, bungalows and Foursquares that were popular in the early 1900s. Suburban developments shoot off from the main drag, characterized by classic ranch-style homes and larger Colonial Revivals built from the 1950s through 1960s. These older homes sell for around $150,000 to $260,000. Some subdivisions were built on Loganville’s outskirts in the past few decades, full of New Traditional homes that sell for $315,000 to $480,000. Despite the new subdivisions, much of the land surrounding the borough retains the ranging, pastoral landscape that South Central Pennsylvania is known for, a patchwork of corn fields and woods. “It depends on where you live, because Loganville isn’t pancake-flat. I’m kind of up on a hill, so I can see over a beautiful valley, and look to see if cars are slowing down on I-83 after it snows. A lot of the land is preserved through the federal government, so it’ll always be beautiful farms and countryside,” Darr says. Loganville has a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Christmastime in Loganville and other events with borough community groups
Festive flags hang outside the businesses, churches and community centers participating in Christmastime in Loganville, a decades-strong day of coordinated commerce and wintertime cheer that returns on a Saturday each November and stretches to include the neighboring municipalities of Jacobus and Springfield Township. Larger venues like the local intermediate school draw thousands of visitors to craft fairs showcasing wintertime goods and raffle baskets, while smaller set-ups at places like Christ Lutheran Church might invite the community to order some homemade soup. Other organizations put on events of their own; the volunteer-run Loganville Fire Company is funded in part by regular barbecue chicken fundraisers, and kids visiting Brown’s Orchard might hunt for Easter eggs or take a hayride between the pumpkin patch and corn maze, depending on the season.

Commuting on I-83 through northern York County and south to Baltimore
Beyond those employed at local hubs like the Wolfgang Candy Company and the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks, Loganville’s residents are largely leaving the borough for work. Interstate 83 parallels Main Street, offering a roughly 8-mile drive to downtown York’s county buildings and the WellSpan York Hospital and a 45-mile drive across the state line to Baltimore. Harrisburg International Airport is about 40 miles away.
