Long Island suburb with modestly priced homes

Located within a stretch of commuter-friendly Long Island suburbs, Central Islip is a mostly residential hamlet with well-maintained outdoor sports facilities, a large shopping center and modestly priced homes. There’s good value here for first-time homebuyers or people just moving to the area. “It’s called ‘central’ because it’s close to everything,” says Joan Brandmeier, a salesperson with Keller Williams Realty and longtime resident of next-door Islip Terrace. “The neighborhood runs between Southern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway, has its own Long Island Rail Road Station, and is right next to Connetquot River State Park Preserve.”

Postwar ranches and attached townhomes

Homes in parts of central Long Island that are neither on the north nor south shores tend to be better value. Central Islip’s housing stock is among some of the most affordable in the area and there’s great value for different types of buyers. Postwar ranches on quarter-acre lots range from $250,000 to $600,000 depending on size and condition. Some of the properties priced lower might require a bit of updating. Larger Brookfield colonials, colonial revivals, split-levels and classic long island Hi-Ranches fetch between $550,000 and $600,000. Comparable homes in Islip Terrace top out at $850,000. A few larger homes closer to Connetquot River State Park Preserve sell for just over $700,000. The area also has several recently built attached townhome condo complexes with two-bed, two-bath units hovering around the $350,000 mark.

Not a lot of job opportunities locally.

The teachers are great, however more resources need to be provided to the students. The school programs and activities need more money to be able to compete with other schools and districts. Their needs to be more career path information provided to the students. The violence in the community is at a all-time high, and more attention needs to be given to the students of such a poverty filled community.

I liked the community aspect. However, the town is becoming very overcrowded therefore making the school system overcrowded and I would like to see some changes made.

central islip is a great place to live in howevet their are alot of drug dealers and alcoholics in this area .The rent price is better in most areas,a room is costing you 400$ a month here which is great. This area is very convenient because the supermarket, gasoline stations, and laundry mats are close.
