In 1988, the Louisville International Airport was set for an expansion. Due to the potential noise pollution, the government acquired residents' homes and paid for their relocation. Many residents decided to stay put, and today, the Edgewood neighborhood is a utilitarian residential area that attracts first-time homebuyers and investors. “The price point is the biggest driving point,” said Gary Polsgrove, an agent with United Real Estate Louisville who has worked in the area for 14 years. “For a first-time homeowner, that could be a draw.”

The location of the neighborhood is an advantage for residents who want to be close to downtown Louisville without paying the higher prices. Proximity to major thoroughfares and public transit make it easy for residents to get around. “There’s a bus coming through maybe every 30 minutes,” Polsgrove said. Interstate 65 forms the barrier between the neighborhood and the airport to the west, and can take residents into downtown Louisville in 15 minutes, and for frequent travelers, being less than 4 miles from the airport makes it convenient to catch a flight on one of the eight major airlines. North Audubon Hospital is less than 5 miles from the neighborhood.
