North Lubbock is a community for commuters looking for short trips
In the Texas Panhandle, there’s North Lubbock, a community with existing and new homes that is close to the Preston International Smith Airport and offers direct routes to downtown Lubbock. “If you want to be in an area of Lubbock where you’ve got easy access to the airport, and you’ve got much lower traffic volume than the south side of Lubbock, north is the way to go” says Wendy Jones, a salesperson and team lead with Keller Williams Realty who sells properties throughout Lubbock. Residents live moments away from two private golf courses, jobs in the Lubbock Business Park and downtown Lubbock’s wide selection of restaurants and bars. North Lubbock has some new developments, but not as many as other areas in Lubbock, which means this northern section of the city isn’t as crowded. The area has a mix of older homes near the golf courses and brand-new duplexes close to the State Highway 289 Loop. “There are some moderately priced homes that have been newly developed, as well as duplexes for rentals,” Jones says. “It’s adjacent to one of the older, affluent areas, which is Lubbock Country Club.” There are ranch-style homes that have sold for $150,000 to $330,000, while newer duplexes, Spanish Revivals and New Traditionals have gone for $330,000 to $600,000. Custom homes on at least an acre of land have sold for $600,000 to $840,000. Homes closer to the 289 Loop have access to public water and sewer, but homes in the north often run on septic tanks and well water systems.

Short commutes to jobs, the airport and downtown
Some residents have short commutes to jobs in the Lubbock Business Park, which has distribution and manufacturing plants, as well as room to build more centers and warehouses. The Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport is in the eastern half of North Lubbock. “I’ve had people move into town ... saying, ‘I fly out every week, and this is kind of a stop off place.’ This area of town is ideal for them because it’s such a short distance to the airport,” Jones says. Residents to the west and south of the airport are most likely to hear planes flying overhead. Interstate 27 runs down the middle of the area, creating a direct path to downtown Lubbock, about 5 miles away. Downtown also has the University Medical Center and Texas Tech University, two major employers for the Lubbock area. There are also a few places of worship in the southern half of the area, like Encounter Grace Church.
