This unincorporated area, home to about 10,000, offers a convenient country lifestyle about 30 miles from the capital city of Columbia. "I like to call it hybrid homesteading, where you're making your sourdough and growing your tomatoes, but you're still getting your Amazon packages and going out for taco Tuesday," says Blaire Kobliski, a Realtor with The Art of Real Estate who lives in nearby Elgin.
Lugoff offers a peaceful rural lifestyle, with wide open spaces, scenic landscapes, and a spacious lots.

Lugoff's new homes, and established homes on acres
Country homes here sit on lots of up to 25 acres, though there are some planned subdivisions. Built along Highway 601, Raglins Creek is one of the newest communities, with more than 100 homes built on 1-acre homesites. Lugoff also has a new townhouse community, The Village at Boulware. The median home price here is around $250,000, significantly less than the state's median. "The older 1970s, 80s style ranch, single family — that seems to be really popular with people,” Koblaski says. “And we are seeing builders come in, too. Even the new build lots out that direction are bigger than the same neighborhoods, same builders closer to Columbia."

Public education through Kershaw County School District
The area is served by the Kershaw County School District, rated B on Niche. The top schools are B-plus rated Lugoff Elementary School and Lugoff-Elgin Middle School and B-rated Lugoff-Elgin High School. There are around 14 higher-education facilities in the midlands.

Highways 1 and 601 flow through Lugoff. “The only traffic jam will be a tractor jam. Unless you get behind somebody who is going slow on a two-lane road,” Kobliski says. One of the leading employers in Lugoff is Invista Plant, formerly DuPont. Dozens of houses of worship surround Highway 1.
Highways 1 and 601 provide easy access to Columbia and other nearby towns.
The area’s connection to Interstate 20 makes commuting to Columbia a manageable drive.

Lugoff House of Pizza & Subs is a community icon
A mix of local and national eateries line the main roads. Lugoff House of Pizza & Subs is a centerpiece, around for nearly 40 years. “It's like a local icon," Koblaski says. "I swear if you say anything bad about it on the internet, a crowd of people shows up, packs your stuff, and asks you to leave Lugoff." Car dealerships, mobile phone shops, hardware and convenience stores are the main retailers here. Camden, the largest city in Kershaw County, is next door with banks, antique stores, shoe shops, salons and a vintage movie theater. “The bigger mall is Village at Sandhill. It's easy to get to,” Koblaski says. "You just keep going straight [for 14 miles]."

Boat ramps, fishing spots and places to hunt in Lugoff
The main parks in the area are Lugoff Elgin Park, Kershaw County: West Complex and Wateree River Veterans Park. Between them, they offer baseball fields, trails, places to fish and meet at the playground. Lake Wateree State Park has camping grounds and boat ramps less than 30 miles away. Hunting and off-roading are also popular. "More like [on] people's private property, where someone has 100 acres, and a group of guys will go in and lease it from them," Kobliski says.

Holiday lights at Wateree River Veterans Park
Wateree River Veterans Park's short walking path is renamed the "Tinsel Trail" in December, when its decorated with holiday lights. Catfish Stomp rolls around that same month in nearby Elgin, featuring parades, a variety of food trucks and hearty bowls of catfish stew.
Four seasons, mild winters and hot summers in Lugoff
Lugoff has four seasons with hot summers and mild winters with rarely any snow. If snow does occur, it's light and short-lived. “It’s really pretty, and then its gone by noon and you can drive again,” Kobliski says. “But everyone buys the milk and the bread. I haven’t figured out what for, but we still have that panic.” She adds that the Midlands region was hard hit by two historic floods in 2015 and 2017 but most of the devastation occurred in downtown Columbia.
