Residential area along main thoroughfare
“Lakeside is part of the main highway; it’s the area you can connect everything through,” says Ian Smith, a real estate agent with Legacy Realty & Development. “It has our only Fresh Market center. There’s a whole stop-and-go area up there.” Lakeside, 4 miles from Downtown Lynchburg, is a residential area with access to commercial centers along Lakeside Drive, the main thoroughfare. Many traveling nurses and Centra Lynchburg General Hospital employees live or rent in the area. “Anyone working for Centra is going to live there,” says Smith. On the other side of Lakeside Drive is the University of Lynchburg, a large public university housing an art museum and a performance hall.

Awareness Garden and Blackwater Creek Athletic Area
“The Awareness Garden is off of Old Forest Road, and there's a Greek Orthodox church there,” says Susan Murray, Realtor with eXp Realty. “The garden is for cancer survivors. They put their names on bricks, and there's a bell they can ring. Now, they’ve opened it up to more than just cancer survivors, and every once in a while, they do a ceremony there to honor them.” Bricks etched with names create paths winding through blooming flower beds and greenery. The garden is filled with fountains, gazebos, birdhouses and benches for visitors to enjoy. The Blackwater Creek Athletic Area offers walking trails and sports fields for pick-up games. Nearby is the Lynchburg Dog Park, where four-legged friends may have off-leash adventures in the fenced-in area
