Woodland's green spaces, maple trees
Although Randolph College sits on the northern edge of Woodland, this Lynchburg neighborhood is home to more than just students. People of all ages can find solace in this neighborhood that stays true to its name with large green spaces and tall maple trees. “A lot of people from different parts of the country move here,” says Martin Donovan, a Realtor with Lauren Bell Real Estate, who has over 30 years of experience in Lynchburg. “I like the diversity and charm it has. It’s not a cookie-cutter neighborhood.” The college offers lots of entertainment including speakers and theater performances.

'Great burgers," Saturday markets
The Cavalier Store, known to locals as "The Cav," is a classic dining option in Woodland. “I like the Cavalier Store; They have really great burgers,” says Aaliya Robertson, a Lynchburg resident who grew up in the city and still lives here. “They’ve been there for years and also have really good customer service.” Rivermont Pizza is another go-to spot, especially for college students, Robertson says. The Kroger on Boonsboro Road is the nearest grocery store, while the Lynchburg Community Market is a popular place to pick up local produce and baked goods. On Saturdays, the market has live music. “The downtown is very busy on Saturdays because of the market. You can get all the little things you need,” Donovan says.

Getting around town on U.S. Route 29
Woodland embraces its college atmosphere by being a walkable neighborhood. Robertson says she always sees a lot of people walking when she’s passing by. People can alternatively hop on U.S. Route 29 to get around. But when there are major events — like farmer’s markets on Saturdays — parking is scarce. “There’s really only on-street parking available,” Robertson says. There’s also a public bus service in Woodland, which helps people get to Lynchburg Regional Airport, just 10 miles away.
