Not every day a school-aged resident gets to choose the name of their city. However, that's precisely how Lyndhurst received its name during a contest in 1920. Lyndhurst means a wooded hill with lime trees growing. While the tropical tree was never a large export in the region, the city does have its historical roots in agriculture. Since then, the city has left its rural origins in favor of a mainly residential suburb. When you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Cleveland but still a stone's throw away from University Circle's hub of medical facilities, then you might find yourself right at home in Lyndhurst. "We get quite a bit of the medical professionals moving into the area," says Beth Rodgers, Realtor with Howard Hanna.

Plenty of space for homeowners
In Lyndhurst, homebuyers will have many options, including lot sizes, interior designs and architectural styles. Most homes feature modest front lawns, but those that would rather skip the maintenance can find alternatives. "There aren't a lot of cookie-cutter homes," Rodgers says. There's an assortment of ranch-style and bungalows. "There are even opportunities for aging in place due to the number of single-level homes," Rodgers says. "Many people that originally built larger Colonials in other communities are trying to get out of them. There's plenty of space for them to move to Lyndhurst." You can purchase your forever home in Lyndhurst for a median price of $214,450. "Homes are selling very high, but overall, it's a well-desired area," Rodgers says.

Beginning learning at Sunview Elementary School
Public school students' educational journey can begin at Sunview Elementary School, part of the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools. Most children transition to Memorial Junior High School from seventh to eighth grade. Brush High School, named after Charles F. Brush, the Ohio-born inventor of the arc light used in the street lights, serves teens in pursuit of their diplomas, which according to GreatSchools, boast a four-year graduation rate of 88%. The secondary school holds the title of being the sole high school in the district. "The schools nearby are very good," Rodgers says. "And you're close to a number of the private schools." In fact, children can attend the first Julie Billiart Campus opened in the state on Clubside Road. The parochial school serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Socializing or cooling off at Lyndhurst Park
When schools are out for summer, children can continue to socialize at the centralized Lyndhurst Park. Bring sunscreen to the splash pad turned on with cool water spraying on warmer days. Residents that want fully submerge will be spoiled by the cascading waterfalls, water slides and swimming areas at the nearby Lyndhurst Pool. It's like having a miniature waterpark within the city. "Lyndhurst Park and Pool were beautifully redone a couple of years ago. A lot of people enjoy it now," Rodgers says. "Everything is starting to pick back up again since COVID." But when you're looking for a greenspace that makes you forget about the city's traffic, noise and look, journey to Acacia Reservation, a former country club. While here, you can fully immerse yourself in the natural oasis. Bring a friend to the 155-acre reservation's events, including mindfulness hikes and birding along the 1.7-mile trailhead. Thanks to Mayfield Sand Ridge Club, golf enthusiasts don't have to worry about converting Acacia from a country club to a public space.
