Revitalized spaces and local flavor define Lyons life
Next door to Vidalia, which gives its name to the region's sweet onions, Lyons, Georgia, has its own small-town charm and attractions. "It's just a place where there are really good, friendly people," says Realtor Arlene Davis with Brown Realty Group. "The community, especially the tourism department, has really gone out of its way to revitalize Lyons. They set up decorations for every event, building beautiful green spaces and just making it a special place." Events draw visitors to downtown, where they mingle with locals at Lyons's restaurants and shops. Highly-rated schools and several green spaces help make Lyons feel like home for families, too.
Ranch homes and cottages dominate this classic Southern town
Lyons has a classic southern community feel. A grid of 20th-century homes dotted with pine and oak trees surrounds the commercial downtown. Many of these older homes are ranch-style or cottages, some requiring updates. Prices run between $145,000 and $365,000. "Most homes are older and in need of renovation, but there is some new construction in the area," Davis says. New Traditional homes in subdivisions, which often have sunny yards and backyard pools, are priced between $285,000 and $300,000. Larger homes in varying styles can list between $400,000 and $585,000. Occasionally, manufactured homes are available, priced between $75,000 and $100,000.

The school offers students dual enrollment credits via Southeastern Technical College and East Georgia State College.
The Pit is the heart of school spirit and community pride
Youth and club sports are big in Lyons. Partin Park offers several fields for baseball and softball, plus a small playground. "Partin is a really great area. There's also a skate park and little cabins that can be rented out for events," Davis says. Friday night games are extremely popular in Lyons, where residents gather in droves at the Jacky Jones Field at Booster Stadium (also known as The Pit). Homecoming games, marching band parades and other events are the town's highlights during the school year. In nearby Vidalia, more ballfields and tennis courts exist for double games and pickleball tournaments. According to Davis, there are also a few green spaces on the outskirts of Lyons. "About 20 minutes down the road, there's access to the Altamaha River, which is popular for fishing and kayaking," she says.
