Madison Township blends rural and suburban living near Adrian
The Southern Michigan community of Madison Township offers buyers plenty of single-family home options with direct access to Adrian's commercial shopping and dining areas. The southern end of the township is more rural, with multiple farms and crop fields. The northern side, close to the city of Adrian, is more densely populated with single-family housing. The northeastern part of Madison Township has several job centers, including plastic fabricator Inteva Products and the Gus Harrison Correctional Facility. “Madison Township is much more densely populated,” says Mark Baker, a broker/owner with Foundation Realty with 17 years of experience. “The main commercial corridor of Adrian is in Madison Township, so it has a Walmart, Lowe’s and [is] the main shopping corridor in the county.”
Mix of housing styles and scenery for homebuyers
Houses in Madison Township vary from manufactured homes and cottages to mid-century ranches and New Traditionals. Prices can range from below $100,000 to $500,000, with costs depending on factors such as size, location and condition. Condos are also available. HOAs do oversee some properties.
Homes on the northern side of the township are typically on gridded streets with large lots. Oak and pine trees also accent lawns. Some roads do not have sidewalks. The southern portion of the township contains multiple farms. Baker says the township has attracted a mix of young families and retirees.
Parks, golfing, swimming and go-kart racing are all nearby
Parks near the township include Burr Ponds Park, which features fishing spots, walking paths and a picnic shelter. Riverside Park has a baseball diamond, basketball courts and a playground. Bohn Pool, located between the two parks, offers a water slide and lap lanes.
The public Woodlawn Golf Club has been in the community since the 1950s and features a 5,900-yard Par 72 layout. Palmyra Speedway, west of the township, is a dirt go-karting track that hosts professional races.

Students are zoned for Madison or Adrian school districts
Students are zoned for several school districts. Madison School District earns a B-minus rating on Niche, while Adrian Public Schools is also graded B-minus. Several higher learning institutions are north of the township, including Adrian College and Siena Heights University.
Dining and shopping on the U.S. 223 corridor
Dining locations are on the northern edge of the township along U.S. Highway 223 and include multiple chains and local spots. Fiesta Ranchera serves Mexican cuisine, while Family Kitchen has breakfast items, burgers and steaks.
The U.S. 223 corridor has multiple grocery and big-box stores, including Meijer, Aldi and Walmart. Department stores such as Kohl’s and Marshalls are also along the highway.
Flooding and storming risks in Madison Township
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency Flood Map, the community is at risk of flooding. Storms and snow can also be factors.
Highway and airport connections
Highway 52 cuts through the township, leading to downtown Adrian and to ProMedica Charles, and Virginia Hickman Hospital, 8 miles north. Toledo Express Airport is 30 miles southeast, while Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County is 56 miles northeast.
