Stately homes in Hanover Hill
Hanover Hill is situated just far enough from downtown Manchester to allow for more spacious homes and yards along its suburban streets. There are ornate Queen Anne styles and Colonial Revivals with columns and porches, as well as more modest Cape Cods. Many homes here were built in the early 1900s. “Lots of the homes are multi-generational homes that would go for a lot, but no one wants to sell their homes,” Tkachuk says. Prices tend to range from around $300,000 to $700,000.
Derryfield Park and Derryfield Country Club
Derryfield Country Club, founded in 1932, is a public 18-hole course that hosts multiple annual tournaments. There is also a restaurant and an indoor golf simulator, so the course still welcomes guests during the colder months. Derryfield Park has a renovated playset and greenspace next to the high school's athletic fields, which are also available to residents. Tkachuk says the park hosts several events throughout the year, including marathons and yoga in the park, which is popular among older residents. The historic Weston Observatory, built in 1896 stands proudly at 66 feet tall, and the surrounding area offers panoramic city views.Manchester public and private schools
McDonough Elementary School and Hillside Middle School both earn an overall Niche grade of C-minus. Students continue on to Central High School, which scores a B, serves over 1,200 students and is the oldest public high school in New Hampshire. Families can also explore private education options, like Trinity High School, which also receives a B and is known for its college-preparatory courses and community.
Taco Tour and cultural festivals
Residents can take advantage of annual Manchester-area events, like the Taco Tour each May. The festival is the largest of its kind in the world and welcomes over 20,000 guests. Folks meander around the city and try custom tacos from more than 90 different restaurants, and each taco costs only $3. Residents can also attend the We Are One Festival at Veteran’s Memorial Park each August. The city combined the oldest Latino and African cultural festivals into one event, with speeches, live music and dancing.Hanover Hill's Highways and sidewalks
Residents in Hanover Hill have a variety of transportation options due to their proximity to downtown. Interstate 93 and U.S. Route 3, also known as Elm Street, are within 2 miles of the neighborhood. Tkachuk says the community also sees much more walking than other parts of the city, with well-maintained sidewalks offering routes to downtown or nearby parks. Locals also have the Manchester Area Regional Transit Authority buses running along two of the larger roads in the area. The Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is 5 miles south of the neighborhood, and Elliot Hospital is less than a mile to the southeast.Laidback eateries and proximity to downtown dining
Jerome's Deli is one of the few dining options in the neighborhood, with rotating soup and sandwich specials along with a menu that hasn't changed in 19 years. Residents can also head to downtown Manchester for additional restaurants, such as the 110 Grill, which offers patio seating, and The Farm Bar and Grille. The Price Rite Marketplace of Manchester is less than a mile away, and residents can stop by the Bosna Store for European brands and other items that can't be found anywhere else in the city. The Mall of New Hampshire is 4 miles to the south, with familiar retailers like Macy’s and Old Navy.
