Suburban vibes just outside of Manchester and Bedford
The suburban Mast Road neighborhood got its name from the white pine trees used to make masts for the Royal Navy when English settlers first founded New Hampshire. These tall pines still stand tall today, creating a number of green spaces along the Piscataquog River that shade the roads of ranch-style, Cape Cod and Colonial Revival homes. These roads also fall between the excitement of downtown Manchester and the quiet neighborhoods of Bedford. “Most of the homes more towards Bedford are going to be single-family homes, whereas the West Side neighborhood and the middle of Manchester are mostly multifamilies,” says Mark Lynch, a Realtor with RE/MAX Synergy who has lived in Manchester for over 5 years. “It’s a pretty smooth transition into communities like Goffstown or Bedford.”
I-293 and major Manchester roads
Mast Road has more access to paved sidewalks and walking trails compared to the rest of Manchester, and residents here can freely stroll around the community. “Simply put, it’s a nice place to walk your dog,” Lynch says. The areas where there are no sidewalks are quiet suburban roads with few cars running around, giving the neighborhood even more of a leisurely feel. When it's time to head to work or run errands, Mast Road leads right into Interstate 293, the closest major road to the community. The Interstate quickly connects drivers to the rest of the Manchester area, along with U.S. Route 3. Catholic Medical Center is less than 2 miles to the northeast, and the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is 7 miles to the south, which Lynch says takes about 15 minutes.
Established ranch-style homes and new constructions
Situated between Bedford and Manchester, homes in Mast Road offer plenty of space while still being close enough to form relationships with neighbors. “The housing styles are super diverse here,” Lynch says. “Just on one street alone, you can find a ranch, a Cape Cod, and a new construction mini colonial all right next to each other.” There is also a range of home ages, with some built as early as the 1910s and others as recently as the 2010s. Lot sizes provide enough space for a modest front and back yard, with gardens and driveways a common sight in front of the home. Home prices range from $300,000 to $625,000, with new construction and renovated homes often being more expensive.

Recreation on the Piscataquog River
With the Piscataquog River bordering the northern end of the neighborhood, residents can enjoy woodland and waterfront views just a short drive away. The George W. Smith Complex is the largest green space in the community, with two soccer fields and a baseball diamond, creating a space often populated with young athletes in the warmer months of the year. Lynch says that the park has hosted community events in the past, like a volunteer cancer walk. Piscataquog River Park is connected to the complex, where river access and shaded trails snake through the white pines. Raco Theodore Pool is just a block away from the complex, which is a public city-run pool that is open in the summer next to year-round sports fields and a fenced-in playground. Bikers and joggers have access to the Piscataquog Rail Trail, a 2-mile paved trail leading residents to downtown Manchester.

The Copper Door is less than 3 miles south of the community, and daily specials like buttermilk chicken and sizzling steaks invite guests into the softly lit dining room. Tucker’s is a brunch spot that usually has a wait due to its large portions and popular dishes like eggs benedict and waffles. Stores like Aubin Hardware are also nearby and have served the community for over 50 years. “Everyone there is super nice. I had an employee help me for 20 minutes just to find a single washer and screw,” Lynch says. Residents can access two different Hannaford stores and Market Basket locations, all less than 2 miles from home.

Manchester events and arenas
Downtown Manchester's largest annual event is the Taco Tour each May. Around 90 local restaurants craft signature tacos for festival visitors to enjoy as the streets fill with music. The Delta Dental Stadium, home of the Fisher Cats, Manchester’s minor league baseball team is also nearby. “I can hear the fireworks from the stadium from my house,” Lynch says. Just up the road from the stadium is the South New Hampshire University Arena, which hosts a variety of events, including circus acts, hockey games and martial arts matches.
