Grand Mere offers golf course homes and a quiet Flint Hills setting
Grand Mere’s up-and-coming golf course community features one of the state's highest-ranked golf courses and some of the highest-priced homes in West Manhattan. But buyers come to Grand Mere for one more important reason. “Buyers love the surrounding views of the Flint Hills,” says Realtor and broker Lori Vilkanskas, a Manhattan real estate agent with Back Nine Realty for the past five years. “It’s peaceful, quiet, and the views of the hillsides change beautifully throughout the year.”
Colbert Hills Golf Course—the heart of the community—is young and making a name for itself. Developed by an alliance of Kansas State alumni headed by Jim Colbert, a K-State alumnus and a professional golfer, it's been named the No. 1 public course in the state by at least three golf websites.
In the surrounding community, the Grand Mere HOA and the Colbert Hills Design Committee worked to create “generally welcome" deed restrictions, which builders and residents must follow, Vilkanskas says. “The covenants benefit homeowners by ensuring the neighborhood's beauty and the homes' desirability. I tell buyers that thoughtful covenants provide peace of mind and consistency.” Buyers in Grand Mere include families with children, young retirees and K-State alums who own a second home here. “I’ve sold homes to alumni who keep a second home here for home football games, Homecoming and, of course, alumni golf tournaments. Some tell me they think of this as their first home, not their second home because this is where their heart is!”
Houses in Grand Mere are surrounded by prairie grasses and the beautiful golf course landscape.
