Liberty Park
Homes from the 19th and 20th century in the Lincoln Park Historic District
Trees shade carefully maintained sidewalks and small yards, and cars park along the quiet residential streets. The sound of children playing outside and neighbors chatting on front porches fills the air in the evening. Architecture includes two-story cottages, Four Squares, Craftsmans and Victorian homes. “The houses are old and charming. They’ve got character and the abstracts that follow them,” Stilson says. “A house will be built in 1893, and the house next door will be built in 1920. For years, there was space next door, and as the city grew, they put up another house.” Because the community is part of the Lincoln Park Historic District, properties remain carefully preserved, offering a window back to the 19th and 20th centuries. Most homes have three bedrooms and cost between $165,000 and $250,000, though there are exceptions that fall in the $255,000 to $305,000 range. From the trail at Rasmussen Woods to the game shops on Front Street
Stoltzman Park sits along the western edge of Liberty Park, putting a playground and an ice rink within a few blocks of neighborhood homes. The park also provides access to the Rasmussen Woods Trail, linking Liberty Park to a nature preserve with wetlands, wooded paths and a fishing pond. When the cold winter weather arrives and indoor entertainment sounds more appealing, the community has two game shops. Locals can play Dungeons and Dragons at PULP Comics and Games, or on Wednesday evenings, Magic the Gathering is played at Atlantis Hobby. With the amenities of downtown Mankato a block away, the neighborhood gains access to additional recreational opportunities, whether locals are looking for a place to shop for antiques or enjoy a Pathfinder campaign. “You’ve got restaurants, boutiques, specialty stores, gaming, tattoos, consignment shops and antiques. I mean, there's everything down here,” says Shawn Neitzel, co-owner of Mom and Pop’s, an ice cream shop along Riverfront Drive.Across the street from the restaurants of Old Town Mankato
With Front Street cutting through the northern part of the neighborhood, Liberty Park gains access to some of the area’s top restaurants and cafes. The breakfast sandwiches and mocha lattes at Fillin’ Station Coffeehouse wake the community before they commute to work. A block away, Mankato’s oldest pizzeria, Pagliai’s Pizza, remains a top spot for a casual dinner, and Nolabelle dishes out American cuisine made with ingredients sourced from farms across the Midwest. The nearest grocery store is Cub Foods, about half a mile northwest of Liberty Park. For more extensive shopping trips, the national retailers at River Hills Mall are 4 miles away.Catching Mavericks hockey game and sipping tea with neighbors
Concerts and sporting events take place at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center, less than a mile away. "We’re known for hockey because we have the MSU Mavericks. When we lived in Lincoln Park, we walked to hockey games,” Stilson says. The Mankato Playhouse entrance faces the event center, so musicals and theater performances also remain only a few blocks away. For events right in the Lincoln Park Historic District, the neighborhood association hosts a Spring Tea on the Lawn event at Lincoln Park, Night to Unite on Lincoln Community Center lawn and historic home tours with guided horse-drawn carriage rides during June.Highly rated schools in the Mankato Area district
Students can attend Mankato Area Public Schools, starting with Jefferson Elementary — a school earning an A-minus grade from Niche and offering morning and afternoon childcare aligned with the school-day curriculum. From here, students can head to Dakota Meadows Middle, a B-plus-graded school, and Mankato West High, an A-graded school ranked as the best in Blue Earth County on Niche. Because the Minnesota State University Mankato campus sits about a mile south, residents can continue their education without venturing far from home. The campus serves about 14,000 students annually and is known for its aviation program.Pedestrian-friendly community close to Route 169
Liberty Park’s proximity to downtown Mankato and sidewalks make it a pedestrian-friendly community. Riverfront Drive and Front Street connect to the shops and restaurants of Old Town Mankato in less than a mile. Route 169 connects Liberty Park to North Mankato in about 2 miles and to the airport in Minneapolis in about 80 miles.
